Guest guest
Thanks Prasad for sharing your knowledge of the Hindu tradition. I respect and appreciate your views, as they reflect a very ancient tradition that is often misunderstood in the West. On the other hand, I believe it is also important to mention that, just like any other religion in the world, Hinduism is hardly immune from gender politics. Just like what happened in the West, in India the religious bias against women is the result not of piousness, but rather of the attempt to consolidate a deeply hierarchical social structure through inequality (not only on the basis of gender, but also class, race, ethnicity, caste... you name it!). I am of the opinion that there is no day of the month when a woman's body or soul or spirit is less sacred, and at no time does she need anybody else's mediation to seek access to the Divine--not even a brahmin male's, LOL! As to mantras having to be transmitted by the guru: I am sure this works very well. However, in my experience mantras can be pretty mind-blowing even when they are picked by the guru inside you. It's all a matter of trusting that your inner sacred essence is just as sacred as anybody else's (big gurus included). Guest guest
Hello Prasad, I am glad my words didn't upset you. I wondered for a while whether I should write that message, but I feel too strongly about the patriarchal bias in world religions (all of them!) not to address the issue. Not to mention that, I my previous incarnation, I was a male chauvinist pig. This is why I always welcome any opportunity to undo some of the harm I so eagerly contributed to in my previous life, LOL! Peace, Sel , prasad k <prasadkrn wrote: > > ||Shri Lalithambikayai Namo namaha|| > ||Shri Gurubhyo Namo namaha|| > > Hi all... > and Selena....thanks so much for your encouraging replies.......thanks for giving me the opportunity to share the little i have learnt..... > chrism and Selena its very true the every very word that both of you have spoken....i was just trying to speak about what is being believed and followed in the land and what i see around ..........i always loved to talk on stotras, mantras and hindhu mythology with all....so it will be a great pleasure to speak of them with you all.....i have always read lots of mythological stories that i can tell to you all...... > thanks and regards > Prasad > > selena230 <selena230 wrote: Thanks Prasad for sharing your knowledge of the Hindu tradition. Guest guest
Hi selena..... there is absolutely no question of getting upset........ what is the need to fight the truth??.............also not to forget to mention being a follower of the advaitha if i would have to believe these bias issues then it would be meaningless....i was afraid for that matter to have spoken out those being a newbie in the group and it might upset others.............. At this point i would remember the fact of ancient vedic times where there were almost no such bias in the society.........women were treated with equality with men....or may be even more than them!!!!!!.....lets see what proved this: First and foremost.......the concept of Shakthi........its feminine......so the greatest force in the creation is widely accepted without any doubt as feminine. In hindhu religion all the gods have their consorts who have equal powers and roles(or play a more important role itself!!!!). example parvathi...goddess of shakti, lakshmi....for wealth....saraswathi for knowledge.....gayathi......goddess of vedas. Many of the rituals cannot be complete without the presence of the wife with the husband. In vedic times women also has the oppur to learn and practice vedas....ex kathyayini, gargeyi, maitreyi etc.....ex a widely accepted procedure for sri vidhya is the rules given by lopamudra....... all these facts are as noticed by me.....and lots more......but it is the saddest thing that things turned just the opposite as time passed..... selena230 <selena230 wrote: Hello Prasad, I am glad my words didn't upset you.
