Guest guest
Dear Becky, Thank you so much for your kind words, they touched my heart! I know what you mean about knowing that you need to do something but aren't sure what it should be! I have been struggling with this for such a long time and I knew that what I needed to do was help others, but I didn't know how or what, never thinking about helping those who don't have what I have. I have always loved working with children so I thought that was what I needed to do so I started back to school to get a post baccalaureate degree in teaching. No sooner than I had started the class (we were living in Georgia) I found out that my husband could very well be stationed in Florida, but at the time we weren't really sure so I continued to take the class and finished it. When it was time for me to sign up for the next class and was in the process of registering for it I found out that we were without a doubt moving. We put our house on the market and it stayed there (this was when the market was still doing well). I told my husband that maybe that meant the kids and I were to stay in Georgia while he moved, at the same time I was getting calls for interviews for teaching and I was being told that I was what they were looking for and the principals were really excited and were trying to find ways for me to teach on a provisional license while I went to school to finish my certification. The day before school ended (my children's school) a contract was put on our house, at that point I knew it was meant for us to leave. After moving down here to Florida, I was once again struggling to find my purpose, my reason for being here. I met our neighbor across the street from us and she told us about the church that we now go to. The first Sunday we attended one of the announcements was for volunteers for the " Daily Bread " . At that point I immediately felt that I needed to do it, I wanted to and couldn't wait. Well the next Saturday that our church was scheduled to do it I was going to be out of town and the same thing happened the next time as well. I began to think that it wasn't something that I needed to participate with because of not being available, then the next time it was our time I was able to go and I was very eager and very excited, since then I have been every day we are scheduled and it felt great and I knew that was for me. I quickly started recognizing the needs of the clients and I have headed the collection of things the soup kitchen needs, clothing and shoes for the clients, hygiene supplies for the clients etc. The one thing the kitchen needed were mugs and for the last 2 months we continue to collect mugs, not only from our service, but also the Catholic services as well and it feels really great to help those and befriend those who ARE the same as me, but don't have what I have so I want to help them get back to where they need to be to take care of themselves and their families as I have once before. I have now found my purpose, my place in this world, in this society! Mind you I have prayed and prayed and prayed for many years and because it was not my time to know that is why it took me so long to find my way, I wasn't in the right place to be shown what I was to do. I know you will know when the time is right and it is meant for you to know. Becky, ask and be patient and when it is time you will be shown and you will know in your heart! Smiles and BIG HUGS! Guest guest
Dearest Katherine - You made my heart smile!!! Last week was open house for my boys school, as always I signed up to be room mom for Josh (he is in 5th grade, Ethan is in middle school) I have been their room mom practically every year. I have signed up, also, to help the children with reading. Josh has Asperger's Syndrome and loves to have me in his classroom giving him a hand. I think, though this is perhaps baby steps towards service it just might give me the inspiration and/or the opportunity to serve others in a much deeper level. Thank you Katherine, your love is felt. Love for you too! Becky Katherine Miller <katsam19 wrote: Dear Becky, Thank you so much for your kind words, they touched my heart! Guest guest
Blessings to you, Becky. Your son is so lucky to have your love and support. I have teen foster children of all kinds (the only requirement from my County is that others cannot handle them, as they pay me a lot) and often think wistfully of how much better these children would do with the steady love and support of their parent/parents. It is always wonderful to see and hear of children being cared for. Guest guest
Dear Becky, You are lucky to be able to volunteer at your children's schools and to me it is so very important to be a part of your children's lives inside and outside of school. I have always volunteered in my children's schools and been on most every field trip they have been on, if my husband could go then I stayed home otherwise I have been there for them. Cherish the moments you are able to spend with them because they grow up so fast. I still go on field trips with both of my children (yes, even my 10th grader) and they enjoy my chaperoning. I don't do much in their schools anymore such as volunteering because they need the space. During the field trips the teachers need the extra help so that they can go on field trips. Your kids will thank you for being there for them and you will build a stronger relationship with them so enjoy and know that you are where you need to be right now and later on you may find yourself somewhere else. You have helped me to realize that being with my children was where I needed to be and now I am moving on. Sometimes you need someone looking in from the outside to understand. God knew that I wanted to be with my kids and they needed me to be there and now He knows it is time for me to move on. Thank you Becky! Thank you!
