Recently I was talking with Katherine about service, and how I sometimes feel a

little hard pushed to find my niche for service living in a country where I do

not speak the local language makes it nearly impossible to find organisations or

to even offer help. Also, I am the money earner right now in my household so I

cannot just go off to tibet and help build greenhouses etc.

Feeling a little sad, I was thinking to myself, what am I doing here, I always

ask

God to show me where to serve.

In the past I have always been useful, helping others.

Then it hit me, I am in a country where most have never seen a foreigner, the

children that I speak or play with have been touched, the old person I smile at

or help through a doorway has been touched, every smile, every kind action helps

to bring down barriers.

The people here are a little afraid of white faces, or anything foreign.

Me and my friends are all pioneers, helping the new generation of Chinese grow

up with less racism and fear.

I guess that could be seen as service.

This thought made me feel a lot happier. :-))

Hello dear sister,

Paraphrasing Mother Teresa:

We may not be called to do great things, just small things with great

love...

You are touching your world...whatever we bring our Presence to makes

a difference. imho.

Love and hugs, dhyana

Yes Elektra, sometimes the service we perform seems too " simple " to

be meaningful. I have had this dilemma myself. I have said to

myself " I am a wife and mother and I have to work, I have no extra

time to volunteer somewhere. " Then it was pointed out to me that

helping people contact relatives that have passed on, running dream

groups, leading people to this group, sending prayer and healing,

doing dream interpretations on Answers, smiling at someone who

looks unhappy, helping someone who is struggling, etc, etc. is all

SERVICE! It is what I can do right now and I should not diminish it

by saying it isn't enough.

We all do what we can as we can. I know if you COULD do more you

WOULD do more and the same goes for me. So you are doing just fine

Elektra!
