last of my devises

Well I have to admit I am a smoker of the most dependent variety and

I am being lead to quit. I have been a smoker since I was 10 years

old and I am turning 50 in May. This is not something I want to do

but I feel my K wants me to do. I know in the long run it will be the

best thing but oh my gosh this is a biggie for me. I smoke about 25

cigarettes a day.

This also means that the last of my devises are gone.(I hope) I

already stopped biting my nails about 2 weeks ago. I didn't even

realize it until I had an itch and I could scratch myself. My coffee

intake has gone from about 10 cups a day down to 2 or 3 and even

somedays one. I am not complaining at all. This is all wonderful. I

bit my nails all my life that I can remember and my coffee intake

took off 12 years ago when I quit drink and such. Before that I

didn't drink coffee at all.

I am feeling very emotional about this like I am loosing an old

friend. But I know if I don't share it won't happen. It's my own

fault really because I asked for all my obsessions to be removed and

smoking is defiantly one of them.

Not only that but I just now realized that I turn to cigarettes

whenever I have a difficult, happy, board or whatever emotion and

that's just wrong. It should be prayer and rejoicing with my higher

power not a cigarette. I see why I am being lead to do this now.

Ah well my friends there it is now you all know so please pray for

me. Who know maybe I will wake up and the desire to light up will be

gone. That's what I am praying for…lol

Dear laura,

We are in the same boat together you andme, we can

beat these addictions together.

I am praying for your success sister.

Usually we begin a habit due to something lacking in

us at the time, if we can find out what we lacked

(love usually) we can remove the core of the problem

and have better chances of success.

Love and hugs

" God, I offer myself to Thee-to build with me and to do with me as

Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do

Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear

witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of

life. May I do Thy will always! "

We will rejoyce when they are gone.

Good going that you not only hear what is being directed to you but you are

following it- We all have our desires and crutches to fill us when in need.

Each of us needs to learn how to surrender that desire and find a means to

replace it.

You are doing just that - thank you for sharing - and yes by putting it here

to all of us - you are one step closer to fulfilling your wishes.

Blessings,

Hello! And congrats on the decision to quit! I can tell you from

experience, that there will be a day when you will not even crave one!

I never thought that possible, but they are more than the days that I

do crave one.

Blessings,

Laura

Tis true! For a long time I craved cigarettes and when I was really

upset would go buy a pack, smoke a few and then throw it out. I knew I

had made it when I had a very stressful time and did not immediately

think of buying a pack. I also knew I made it when I was able to have

one cigarette at an office Christmas party without considering going

back to smoking. (I don't recommend this, it could cause a relapse) I

still dream of smoking a lot. In the dreams I can actually taste the

menthol.

In October, it will be 10 years since I quit! I know I will never

smoke again. You can do it!!

Hi Laura Joyce,

I wonder if the name Laura has anything to do with this. Since the

last Shaktipat I have also given up smoking. I even tried to have one

last night, took one puff and gave it away, it tasted so disgusting.

I've been battling with this for the last year and used to beat myself

up when I'd cave in and have a smoke. This time even if I did have

one I didn't have that same condemning attitude of myself. I think

this is the K working in me slowly and helping me to love myself. The

fingernail biting will go soon. Actually it was a comfort to me to

find another person around my age whi still indulged in this habit.

I've always felt silly for being so old and still doing it. Oh well.

About ten minutes ago I realized I've been walking around everywhere

with my dress on backwards. Ha. And no-one mentioned it - I got

dressed in the dark. It's now afternoon.

Lots of love
