Guest guest
Chrism, I need your advice if you don't mind. A friend of mine has a nephew whose been diagnosed and been living with Williams Syndrome for the last thirty years. Here recently in the last month he has been aggressively acting out through self-mutilation, cutting his arms. At times, the cuts have been severe enough for emergency room visits. After the last severe cutting, he was admitted into a psychiatric facility and was there for about three weeks, where he said he was hearing voices. Both of these symptoms are new. The family questions whether he is truly hearing voices because until the doctors asked he never said anything about it. The psychiatric hospital released him with three different types of psychotherapeutic medications instead of finding out why he suddenly starting cutting himself. They sent him to a psychiatrist out in town where the doctors diagnosed him with Bi-Polar disorder, which is a new diagnosis and given three additional psychotherapeutic medications on top of what he is already taking. Since the release form, the psychiatric facility he has been physically and aggressively attaching his mom as if he is trying to hurt her for some reason. She is the only person he tends to go after. The doctors don't seem to be trying to find out what is wrong with him and why the sudden change in behavior after never suffering from an aggressive behavior. He has always been really gentle and kind without incident. He is having various medical symptoms since taking the medications, but the doctors don't seem to want to listen. His regular doctor is now having him tested for Cytochrome P-450 enzyme disorder, but won't have the results back. Even still, this won't account for the behavior. Is there anyway you can help in this matter? I know you aren't a doctor or anything like that, but HE needs help before the doctors end up killing him by the number of meds he is taking and his abrupt aggressive behavior. Being with Williams Syndrome, he has the mentality of a child. Most doctors aren't familiar with Williams Syndrome. If you have some sort of information that might be beneficial or a direction to send them looking would be most appreciated, because the doctors, other than his regular physician doesn't seem to care very much why he is doing what he is doing. They just drug him up with now 6 different psychotherapeutic medications. Thank you so very much in advance. Love, Katherine
