Guest guest
I think that even in the deities this issue of loving conditionally or unconditionally comes up. In the Book of Liberation through Hearing, commonly called the book of the dead, it describes in great detail what happens after we die. Please keep in mind, this is my understanding of this, and I'm a long way from enlightenment, but this is what I believe. Essentially, for seven days we are unconscious, then we wake up in the brightest light we have ever seen, so bright that it is hard to tolerate - that is our enlightened nature and if we can remain in it, if we can see things for what they are, that is enlightenment. After that, we have get visited by the peaceful deities, who represent the enlightened nature of love. They accept us unconditionally, and if we can release ego through their teachings we become enlightened. Then the wrathful deities appear who appear as horrifying beings drinking blood and trampling skulls. They are there to terrify us into releasing our egos, and their teaching is not unconditional acceptance, but showing us exactly where we hold on. Again we can become enlightened through their teaching. If we haven't become enlightened so far, we begin to choose how we want to be reborn, and we see visions of couples making love all over the worlds. It is up to us to find parents that will cultivate our wisdom. And here the advice is quite practical, if a bit humorous. If a couple seems unsuitable, don't get between them! Here's the deal though, all these things we see are just projections of our mind. First we see our enlightened mind, then our peaceful and loving mind, then our judging and discriminating mind, and then we muddle through into rebirth. This is just what happens in each moment as we are here, now, and living. We judge situations and decide to join or to stand against them. If we know we are doing this, we can choose with wisdom, if not, it's pot luck; either way, conscious or not, we create our own experience.
