Guest guest
This is part of the " chop wood haul water " meditation, the expanded version. For those not familiar with this it is a practice of keeping the body and mind in balance as the survival of the human in the physical requires that the basic needs be met. Typicsally through work. Even if the basic needs of survival are met from a perspective of having all of the survival needs met there is still the requirement of " work " that continues to need doing. However it is that you chop your wood and haul your water, you still need to do these things and along those lines I suggest that those who are interested in being fully self - sufficient tsake a look at this book here. http://www.amazon.com/Building-Your-Ark-Lia-Danks/dp/0967179106 I have this book and even though it was written for the Y2K issue it has very good value as a guide into off the grid living or creating something from very little. If you intend to purchase it watch for the pricing differences. 29.05 is the cheapest I found with over one hundred dollars being the most expensive for the same book. " Chrism, I am very proficient at this, so if the list has questions, feel free to email me or do it onlist if it is on topic. I call it more self-reliant. When you are able to meet your own physical needs with no outside input, it opens up a new way of looking at the world. Nobody after that can pull your strings.. There is no one who can threaten you. when you have to go to the grocery store everyday something is wrong. If ours closed down today, I figure I can do very well for about a year. Depending on how many of the kids make it here. I can go into battery backup, solar, wind, handpumps etc.. we have them all. I built all of the systems myself so I do have some expertise. It's my legacy to my children. They are going to live in a much different world, and here they can provide for themselves. I actually have wind generators, stored, not out in the wind, but stored to be raised as we need them. Why use them now when power is cheap. a longer lifetime if we raise them when we need them. Our diet is diverse now, but we can grow a diet that maybe isn't so great but will keep us all alive for quite sometime. I said earlier that I am expanding root crops, potatoes, onions, carrots, as they deal well with the vagaries of climate. Same exactly as the peasants did after Rome fell. These crops store well to. My mother raised me as a steward of the land, bless her heart, she made me into a gardener. She also, in her death, lit off all the is happening in me now. Guest guest
I would love nothing more then to become self sufficient but i feel a bit concerned as i have no house, no land, no garden, no money. I cannot see how I can ever achieve such a thing before something hits this planet. I'm stuck in china and i must say it would be nice if i could get a two week warning so i could leave here and make my way to thailand!!! I would never want to be stuck in china for a long while if no cars and planes were running. I have no k friends to visit :-(( I'm feeling sorry for myself today and a little worried about the future. Say a prayer for me and my husband please!
