Guest guest
Please Brandi where did you see these words? They are not used in George's ego post or by Eckhart Tolle or within my post. , Brandi Jasmine <jazztalk wrote: > I've seen words used here like " killed " , " eliminated " and " destroyed " . Is that a healthy goal? We need a healthy ego, if we were to truly eliminate it altogether, we would not be able to function in the real world for long. > > Brandi > > > At 12:44 PM 9/6/2008, you wrote: > >I also echo what Brandi, Dhyana, Sarita and others have suggested and > >recommend all who have not done so already to read Eckhart Tolle so > >you may discover as George has so eloquently stated that the ego is > >not be molded and tamed but rather recognized and evolved. >

It was a mind set I was referring to, an attitude, not to the individual people - or I would have addressed them directly. I am sure you can find those words used if you search through the archives. Indeed, Tolle would never use those terms, that's the reason I brought him up to begin with. Tolle's approach to ego is right on the money imo. We can't hope to eliminate ego. The goal is to become aware of it. Whenever we are emotionally triggered, especially when we are feeling angry, anxious or hostile reactions, our ego is at play. There is value in observing this, as the more observant one is the more control one gains over egoic reactions. That's a very different attitude from " killing, destroying, eliminating " our " vulgar " egos. And from my recent observations we're all much better at recognizing the ego at work in another than we are in ourselves, especially when we're in the middle of a post accusing someone else of egoic reaction. One can never accuse another of being ego-based without coming from ego oneself. I wanted to draw people's attention to the languaging they are using when discussing this topic. Mother Teresa used to say she would never attend an anti-war rally but she'd be delighted to attend a peace march. While the end goal is the same, how you phrase your intent *matters*. Tolle points this out as well. We have our war on drugs, or war on terrorism, and the more hostile and warlike the language becomes, the more these troubles gain a hold on us. I am seeing a war-like attitude on the ego here. I made us aware of it. Do with that what you will. Brandi
