Guest guest
Hi My Dear Friend and Teacher, A little advice is needed re. watermelon. Watermelon is not indigenous to the UK and has to be imported at great expense to the environment. Over the summer months it was easy to get hold of, as was a lot of tropical imported fruit. I also ate an assortment of other melons shipped in from wider Europe, eg. Cyprus and Spain. Now winter is near there are no melons in our shops and if I really wanted one it would be far, far too expensive for me to consider getting it. I would have to go to Glasgow, my nearest city and find a specialist shop to order it from. You can see my dilemma as winter takes hold. We have an abundance of Apples, pears and citrus fruit at a reasonable price, so are any of those a suitable alternative? If not what do you advise to take in the place of melon?
