Guest guest
I have been getting what I used to refer to as pre migraine squiggles - where there are various images of moving light usually a half moon type sometimes a full circle - my friend gets these before a migraine and sees all kinds of different colors and shapes as do I -she mentioned the black/white zebra pattern Before these would be pre migraine I would know to take a pill and lie down for a time - now they come and there is no migraine (thank you) -when this happens I can not see well - if it occurs while driving I have to pull over - like now I am trying to type and there is this moving set of black/white/light blue " c " shaped formation floating to the left in front of my left eye about 6-8 inches out of my vision making it hard to see- They have always gone away eventually and I have never timed the stay nor could I figure out the when- other than the migraines came during my monthly cycle and ov & l & tion that can not be the cause now so what is going on?? My concern is I am now working some and it does not do well to not be able to see and while this formation is present I feelnaueseous I know others have this - I also know it is k related - Any suggestions of what is happening and why after so many years of not having them??- The migraines were related to the female cycle and ovu & l & tion --not an issue now so what do I need to do to clear the area or stop them or what to do when they occur so it does not interfere with work. I have never figured this out - What do I do to shorten the duration -before I would pop a pill now because the migraine does not come I do not take anything- They have pretty much dissipated now so a short time today - I still feel nausueaus --actually it has always been interesting to watch the show - the colors and shapes are always unique - Thanks e
Guest guest
Hi E, By what you say I presume you have either had a full hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries or you are post menopause? It is only in these two circumstances that you will not have a monthly cycle. I had a hysterectomy 23yrs ago and they left one ovary, because of this I went through my montly cycle but had no bleed. I have been told by my gaenocologist that this will continue until I am completly out the other side of my menopause. So before you dismiss your monthly cycle as the reason for your symptoms, have a word with your doctor/nurse first. I hope this helps a bit as I know how bad migrains can be. Guest guest
I get occular migraines in addition to classic migraines. The first time it happened I thought I had a detached retina and made my eye doctor see me as an emergency. Usually when the visuals go away, I get a mild migraine. The only thing I have been able to do when this happens is to get home ASAP and lay down until it passes. It would not be wise to try to work, drive or anything else that requires balance and awareness during one of these episodes. While it most certainly could be K, it would also be a good idea to get checked out to be sure. As one who has been afflicted with migraines since the age of 12, I have learned not to fight against it, but to do what is necessary. It is dangerous to yourself and others to drive while "under the influence" of a migraine. When I have tried t0 continue with my normal activities during an episode, I have always suffered all the more. For a time, my migraines became very pronounced due to the K activity. Thankfully, they have subsided to a great degree. Perhaps you are going through one of these periods as well. I hope you are feeling better soon! Guest guest
Sarita - that makes sense that these are occurring with heightened k - i do not get the headaches not yet today i had all the symptoms but no actual headache but i still feel really off and the sensitivity to light, sound is extreme - i know about the laying down but that is not an option when working - it will be interesting to see how this ebbs the next few days - i do know that classic coke (the drink) does help some - another student takes an aspirin and drinks coffee when the symptoms arrive. When I close my eyes I feel the energy in my body - that is new --- Thank you for your info e
Guest guest
I have had the symptoms without the pain, I call them "breakthough migraines". I know you need to work , but it is not advisable to push it when having these symptoms. People who have migraines are twice as likely to have strokes as opposed to those that don't. Your well being is far more important than any job. As far as the coke goes, I use cherry Pepsi or Coke to help with the headaches and nausea. I am not sure what ingredient helps nausea, but my mom used to give me "Coke Syrup" when I was a kid for tummy aches. I know one component is the caffeine which is a vasoconstrictor. When you have a migraine, the blood vessels in the head open wide which is what causes the pain (many people think it's the opposite). The caffeine constricts the blood vessels which reduces the pain. Keep in mind that caffeine also dehydrates the body, so lots of water is necessary as well. There are drugs that do this as well (triptans such as Immitrex) but there are some cautions when using them because they constrict blood vessels everywhere in the body, including the heart. I used to use them for my worst migraines, but since my accident they are no longer an option because I had a hemhorrage in the brain. I know this is not a migraine forum, but I posted the info here so others who may be afflicted could benefit.
