Guest guest
I attended a public talk by a well-known meditation group yesterday night. The message, which was expressed in so many words, was " this is the only true way to achieve spiritual realization. Nothing else works, and if you haven't been initiated by us you have been wasting your time. Don't ask questions, please. Guru knows everything and He will guide you, but first you have to stop thinking. Most importantly, you must trust us because we have been initiated by Superbabaji who was a disciple of Mahababananda, who was chosen by Harekrishnayogendra (etc.) " This made me even more appreciative of Chrism's humble non-guru attitude as well as his availability to work with a variety of systems and answer all sorts of wacky questions we ask Thanks for being who you are, Chrism. Guest guest
Yes, very good. I agree. I have been a spiritual seeker for most of my life but have not joined any group…well I did once or twice many years ago and I have come very close to other groups many times. They all claim to have the answer. Many of them claim to have the one and only answer. I love religion but have joined none of them. I just can't get with the whole " we are the only ones with the answer " thing. I was born Jewish…so I am Jewish. I was initiated into Nichren Shoshu Buddhism…so I am Buddhist. I just love Hinduism and at my request a Hindu pundit declared me Hindu...so I am Hindu. I have considered myself Taoist for the last 25 years…so I am Taoist All of this and I am not religious…I follow none of them. They all have something to offer and I respect them all but, for me, none are to be followed as the one and only truth. Yes, I am attracted to the open approach of this group. And…to be honest…even this group is just on my edge of my tolerance for ritual and " Musts " (must do the Tibetans, meditate, wear the right color on the right day of Shaktipat, pray 3 to 5 times a day) I do however see the reason for the " musts " in this group. So I do them, they are good…well the wearing the right color clothes for the Shaktipat days is a bit much, but I do that also even though I think it is not really need. rich
Guest guest
Hi Rich, Thanks for sharing your experiences. I totally agree with your views regarding " musts, " whichever form they come in. I don't know that there is any real compulsion to do anything on this group: you can take the advice, leave it, or adjust it to your own needs. That's how I go about it (Chrism knows I am the disciple from hell who always questions everything, LOL!). If you don't feel comfortable wearing the colors, doing the Tibetans, etc. you may want to find a way of supporting your K that includes slightly different practices. The key here is to thoughtfully engage Chrism's advice instead of turning him into yet another " guru " to be followed blindly. To me, the immense value of Chrism's approach is that he provides 100% guidance for those who need it, even as he fully supports those who are more prone to exploring and experimenting on their own. His acceptance and openness is a sign of his spiritual achievements. Those who claim the be the " one and only guru " haven't been able to deal with their ego yet. Guest guest
You know nowadays i see that so many people on this planet get sucked into all kinds of belief systems,religion/spirituality/politics............................whatever, and we all say ''this''is it. This is the only way to go! To just be neutral, seems to be so difficult for so many. Yes this site is different. Igor. From: selenaDate: Sat, 14 Mar 2009 16:33:07 +0000 Thank Goodness for Chrism!
