Tanya,

Having a history of acid reflux which usually occurs while I'm sleeping, I've

found the following helpful:

* Avoid or limit fried, high-fat, high-sugar, acidic (i.e. tomato sauce), and

overly processed foods. Better to integrate more whole grains, prepare fresh

fruits and vegetables--steamed, baked, broiled, sauteed in liquid, soups. Snack

on nuts, dried fruits, etc. vs candy, ice cream. Have these trigger foods as an

occasional treat if desired. For me more than once a week means acid reflux

episode.

* Eat fresh pineapple with meals (canned if that's what's available), contains

bromelain enzymes. I like fresh pineapple with low fat organic yogurt, which

also is good for digestion. For me once a day following the evening meal is

sufficient.

* And/or take digestive enzymes with meals (papaya, bromelain based such as

American Health brand)

* Eat 4-6 smaller meals per day rather than fewer large meals

* Don't eat a large snack/meal too close to bedtime

* Drink a lot of water

I've gone the pharmaceutical route in the past to treat digestive issues, these

drugs pretty much work against the function of digestion by suppressing acid

production. I find the logic of this confounding--how can you digest food with

less digestive acid? Could throw a monkey wrench in the works. I've found the

above strategies work much better, with little risk of side effects or cost of

doctor visits and prescriptions.

One more thing, Tanya.

For heartburn relief, my mom taught me to dissolve a spoonful of baking soda

(same ingredient in alka seltzer tablets) in a glass of water, drink and enjoy

the " bubbles " . :)

yes, during earlier days when my K was awakening, it used to work itself when i

was asleep.

the stomach contracts inwards (the third chakra) so that the energy floats

upwards.

many times i used to wake up abruptly in the night as if i was going to vomit.

and sometimes in the morning i had the acid taste in my mouth.

so it was K working when I was asleep.

now the same thing will happen if i meditate after eating too much ;)
