Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Temple)- Toronto

I've uploaded photos of a temple that was built here in Toronto a couple of

years ago. It's called Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Temple)- Toronto

The architecture is quite amazing and was built using the traditional Hindu

practices of marble columns and beams (no nails, screws, steel beams and

columns). The marble, both structural and cosmetic were hand carved in India,

where they were numbered, sequenced and installed by Volunteer Indian workers.

The workers made their way here on their own as part of their enlightenment

journey, were housed and fed by the Hindu community and worked diligently for 18

months to erect this monumental shrine.

Here's where it gets good and where traditional eastern craftsmanship is met

with western technology. The temple's roof glistens at night to the colours of

the chakra system. It starts with red to violet, then back down again- how cool

is that.

It's open to all, and if anyone has the inkling to make their way up to Toronto,

it's a must see and experience.

I'll be uploading more pic's when I go in the next few days. I promise they will

be better.

Be Well and Enjoy.

Hi Ernie,

The pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. Indeed, the Baps have

recently built many stunning temples. However, if compared with " traditional "

Hinduism, the Baps and their temples stand out on two accounts: one is their

worship of gurus, whom the regard as deities and drive around in Rolls Royce

cars, and the other is the segregation that they impose on women.

Personally, I am not comfortable with either.

Namaste,

Sel

I had no idea who they were. I will want to see the temple up close and live to appreciate the beauty of it.

Be Well,

Ernie
