Bruce and Linda i was able to find a conversation on an interview with

Bill Moyer and Joseph Campbell concerning the mythology of Walfrom and

the Holy Grail. . .

 

I copied it from the video and thought i would share it with you. . .

Interview with Bill Moyer and Joseph Campbell

 

Moyer; Why is the concept of love (the the Troubadours) expressed in

the 12th century important in the West?

 

Campbell: I think that is what is the good thing about the West, the

validity of the individuals experience. In individuals experience, and

values against the monolithic. . .

 

Moyer: Was there some of this in the legend of the Holy Grail?

 

Campbell: Yes, Walfrom has a very interesting statement about the origin

of the Grail. He says, the Grail was brought from Heaven by the Neutral

Angels. . .There was a war in heaven between God and Lucifer. . .and the

angelic host that sided one with Lucifer and one with God. . .pairs of

opposites. . .good and evil. . .God and Satan. . .

 

The Grail was brought down by way of the middle by the Neutral Angels.

 

Moyer: Then what is the Grail representing?

 

Campbell: The Grail becomes that which is attained and realized by

people who have lived their own lives. . .so the story very briefly is

this; I am giving it now as Walfrom gives it, and this is just one

version of the Grail. . .

 

The Grail King was a lovely young man but he had not earned that

position. . .and the Grail is the highest attainment of the human

potentiality. . . He was a lovely young man and He rode forth from his

castle with the war cry, Amore. . .and as he is riding forth a Muslim. .

..a pagan warrior. . .the Muslim warrior comes out of the darkness at

night and both of them leveled their lances at each other. . .they drive

at each other and the lance of the Grail King kills the Mohammadon but

the lance of the Mohammadon castrates the Grail King. . .

 

What that means is that the Christian separation of matter and spirit. .

..of the dynamism of life and the spiritual. . .natural grace and

supernatural grace. . .has really castrated Nature. . .and the Europen

life, the European mind has been emasculated. . .by true spirituality

which would of come from and up from the earth has been killed. . .

 

And what the pagan represents is he was the person from the suburbs of

Eden. . .he was regarded as a Nature man. . .and on the head of his

lance was written the word GRAIL. . .That is to say that Nature intends

the Grail. . .Spiritual life is the bouquet of Natural life. . .not a

supernatural thing imposed upon it. . .and so the impulses of Nature and

the impulses within man are what give authenticity to life not obeying

rules that come from a supernatural authority. . .That is the sense of

the Grail. . .

 

Moyer: So the Grail that these Romantics where searching for where the

union of? the peace that comes from joining?

 

Campbell: The Grail become the symbol for the authentic life that has

been lived by its own volition. . .in term of its own impulse system. .

..and carries it between the pair of opposites, between good and evil. .

..light and dark. . .

 

Walfrom starts his epic with a short poem. . .stating that every act has

both good and evil results. . .every act in life yields pairs of

opposites. . .and because of that the best we can do is lean towards the

light. . .and intend the light. . .and what the light is that of the

harmonious relationships that come from compassion suffering and

understanding. . .leading to right relationship with the other person. .

..this is what the Grail is about. . .

 

Moyer: When we say God is love. . .does that have anything to do with

romantic love?

 

Campbell; Yes that is what it did do, God was a divine visitation. . .

that is why it was superior to marriage. . .that was the troubadour

ideal if God is love then Love is God. . .

Thanks again.. these lines seems to resonate with where my thinking is headed..

and Sparrow.. your ponderings on living the grail... as living and becoming ones

highest deepest vision for self and the alignment that comes from that process..

and that becoming, the creative act, becomes the next stepping stone for the

next learning...

 

and for Elektra.. honoring the vision to write..

Chalice and the Sword. The Lance and the sheath. The one that is two. -
