Guest guest
Dear & All: On my drive into work I was asking myself, what does one eat when coming off a fast. A watermelon truck pulled up along side me. I walked into our employee lunchroom and thought, what does one eat after a fast? I was welcomed by a table full of home grown veggies. I grabbed a few carrots and a tomatoe and went to the nearby museum for my lunch break. Thinking I would have the chance to wiggle my toes in the grass and if nothing else, meditate for a bit, I located a nice little shady area. A homeless man walked up to me, plopped upon his foam cushion and said " oh, I thought you were a boy " . I said, I'm not a boy. He said, " you're a girl " …and I said yes I'm a girl with short hair. He proceeded to ask for a dollar, and I replied I do not have any money on me, but I have some food. He said, " let me take a look " …and I opened up my bag holding blueberries, a banana, a few carrots, a bag of watermelon and a tomatoe. He reached for the watermelon. I quickly said, anything but the watermelon, I'm coming off a fast. (Which later I thought, how totally arrogant and unaware of me to say this to a homeless man.) He then reached for the tomatoe, and as quickly reached for my toes. I quickly pulled them up into two little hedgehog-like balls. He went on to tell me his life story. He then laid down on the grass…which was to have been " my " meditation space, and said, " do you want to be my wife " . And I said, no thank you, I don't want to be your wife, and please don't ever touch my toes without asking. He laid all the way down on his side and attempted to kiss my feet…and I said Oh no!…You have no idea where those feet have been! And do not try to kiss my feet without ever asking. He took off his shoes and said, " see I have pretty feet like yours, oh my shoes smell " …and attempted to show me his feet. (I will refrain from being further desriptive). I gave him my thought-to-be lunch and headed off back to the office. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to come off the fast, unless that isn't advisable... I suppose that lunch or lack of isn't the moral of the story anyhow in this second day of Shaktipat. -Danielle
