How many licks does it take to get to the center?

Dear All:

Have you ever wondered how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie

Roll Pop? Are you familiar with that candy commercial from the 70s? In the

advertisement, the question is asked …and then an Owl says, " one, two…three " and

on three crunches through the hard candy shell and into chocolately tootsie roll

chew. I am like that owl. My brother on the other hand, as a child, actually

counted the number of licks it took to get to the center of the tootsie roll pop

and wrote to the candy company to tell them. The company supplied him with a

years' worth of candy pops and Sugar Daddy the size of the state of Colorado.

Needless to say, I was not permitted access to his stash of chocolately chews

waiting their unveiling. I would experiment with leaving the pops in the sun,

smashing them with a hammer, or running them under the faucet. To my delight ,

I soon discovered that those tootsie centers existed without the coating and

were packaged in a little bank for safe keeping.

Here I am 30-some odd years later waking from a restless slumber and asking

the question, " how many licks does it take to get to the center? " How many

layers need to be dissolved or savored and/or the combination of both? How hard

can that shell and coating possibly be? I think that my brother was on to

something…he experienced and savoured the journey. Sometimes that's a difficult

thing to do when there is something so deightful at the core just waiting to be

discovered.

I dreamt of a peace pipe, and women's healing, of the female part of a

man's healing, and the male part of a woman's healing, and the healing of our

Earth Mother. I dreamt of a giant tree, and a large chunk of quartz and winds

of the four directions-the change of seasons, and a little blue butterfly with

brown marble eyes. I received a call advising that my little nephew died. How

many licks does it take to get to the center?

That is soo funny and so synchronistic, as I was just thinking this last week!

And I just love the analogy of ripping the layers away to get to the " center " of

ourselves. :)

Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,

Maggie

p.s. Maybe this was your nephews way of getting to the center and assisting

others in doing to the same from their perspective. The tangled web we weave is

actually divine and so intricate we can't possibly know everything (at least

from this dimensional perspective)...

blessings to you!

dear Danielle

so sorry for this lost for you and your family. . . " the death of a baby

is like a stone cast into the stillness of a quiet pool; the concentric

ripples of sadness sweep out in all directions. " . . .

standing between earth and sky this day contemplating a lollipop and

how to get to the sweet essence . . . Danielle the old Native/Irish soul

of yours must sense this is what you have with this littlest member of

your family. . . the precious essence of this baby. . .eternity. . .that

which always was and will always be. . . .

Danielle do you remember the Irish mourning song?

. . . . . I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the snow on the

mountain's rim, I am the laughter in children's eyes, I am the sand at

the water's edge,

I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle Autumn rain, When

you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet

birds in circled flight, I am the star that shines at night,. . . . . I

am not there, I did not die. . . .

dear Danielle may you and your family be wrapped in the I Am of all

eternity and hold this precious baby forever. . .for he is holding you

too. . .

Dearest Danielle,

I was reading your post and suddenly, I felt a huge space open up and it was

hard for me to know what to say.

So - my dear - all I'm going to do, is sit here and cry with you and share just

a little part of it with you and the others here.

-

-

-

with love and a little awe at your wisdom in the midst of this.
