Guest guest
Yep, I'm off to the woods again this weekend, supposed to be excellent weather! Finally, now that summer is over I'm going to teach my daughter how to meditate while there and I wanted some advice please. When you breathe and focus on the breathing, can I please request input as to what I can tell her to repeat? I personally haven't found one I really like, last time I tried " Hal, ley " on the in, and " lew, ya " on the out real slow, but it just didn't fit me right. So, I guess the replies will help me too to come up with the mantra (is it called a mantra?) Thanks, we are leaving in 4 hours. also, any advice I should give to a nine year old just beginning? Thanks and Namaste, Bill
Guest guest
I only prefer 1 " Om " or " Ram " . Both ae equally powerful. , Bill <astronutski wrote: > > Yep, I'm off to the woods again this weekend, supposed to be excellent weather! Guest guest
Hi Bill, What a lovely opportunity for you to spend time with your daughter, and for her to have this special time with you. I guess I am not a huge follower of very specific techniques for meditation.... so that is why my answer is as it is. I would be very cautious of giving a mantra. I think breath observation comes before meditation but tha is just me and where I am coming from. I would be into observing the mind /body/ breath connection as one begins the journey of meditation ... Self observation of her own breath moving in and out of her body as she sits in silence, for me would be key to starting meditation. I am not big into teaching people to meditate in a very particular way, ... but if I was going to make one suggestion / instruction, it would be this.. .....if you blow the breath out through your mouth, then close your lips, do nothing else... you can observe a pause in breath...... and then the air / breath rushes in through your nostrils..... repeat this a few times.... Your daughter can observe that when she blows out gently... the in breath takes care of itself. It could be interesting to observe how at the start of a meditation how fast /slow the rate of breathing is.... and does it get slower as we relax more into it? how it feels as the air moves in through her nostrils..( warm /cold air moving up through the nose) how breath sounds as it leaves her body.... how does her body feel to be just sitting, eyes closed and being aware of breath.. How does her body feel to be just sitting eyes opened and being aware of breath..... After a while she will probably stop blowing out the breath and will begin to breath in and out through the nose ... That's my contribution, hope you find something useful there.
