Guest guest
Hello all, I am fairly new to this list, the healing list and also to this type of practice. I am doing the tibetans regularly (though not everyday yet. I am up to 10 reps of each one), and practicing the safeties as a daily part of my self talk. I have a question about losing one's ego and self deprecation. where is the line between them? I am no more worthy than anyone else, I am no better and no worse. I know that I suffer from a terrible self esteem, but I am afraid that if I like myself better, I may become too full of ego, and try to control people through the force of my will/ego. When does one cross over from emptying self to hating self? What is good assertiveness and what is being over assertive and bossy? How can one recognize one's skills without being " braggy " ? I am fascinated by the lives of Jesus and Gandhi- in giving up traditional " power " , they actually had much more effect on the world. I find that in my work, helping others without asking for something in return is good for both me and them. Generousity with our time, love and spirits is so rare today. And when someone receives that from me, I love their reaction. I feel good when I see their reaction. And then I hope/pray that it creates a similar action in them towards someone else. All this time, I am totally aware that I am only one small person doing relatively insignificant things. I do not deserve, nor do I seek recognition. This applies in personal life as well. Maybe I am too Midwestern about this? Surrendering, yielding to others, leaving ego at the door, allowing energy/spirit/love to work through me is great. Is that self deprecation though? Cause if it is, then maybe I should be more so. Shaun
Guest guest
Loving yourself and loving others is a good balance, loving yourself but not loving others is when the inbalance occurs I believe. Loving yourself is very important, understanding your own true power is very important because then you can take responsibility for your actions and become one of Gods helpers (which it sounds as if you are anyway:) Ego works in many ways, ego also tells us we are worthless and useless and not worthy of love. So I would say unconditional humourous love is the best remedy all round, and lots of service others. If we embrace our power from a state of unconditional love and forgiveness, and keep check on ourselves, always working to better ourselves and help others, we are on a good path, thats what I think anyway. Welcome, and blessings elektra x x x

Guest guest
Hi Shaun, Here is my opinion on this. I define the ego as that thing that talks in your head. Your ego should be approached very carefully since it is something you do not have control of. Loving your ego is chaining yourself with gold chains, hating your ego is chaining yourself with iron chains. I try to limit in how much " interaction " I have with the ego, and try to stay " aware of it " or " on the sidelines " and watch it rumble. Also starting to become aware of your ego will help you in emotional balancing. There are obvious places where you have to use your ego, such as analytical thinking and problem solving and even telling yourself " Ok I am going to concentrate FULLY during my practice today " . But don't get caught up in the rumbling because you will start slipping into its (ego's) illusionary world created from symbols and things that other people said about you about during your life. " I am no more worthy than anyone else, I am no better and no worse. I know that I suffer from a terrible self esteem, but I am afraid that if I like myself better, I may become too full of ego, and try to control people through the force of my will/ego. " The " I " in your statements is what is making your mind spin in circles. And that " I " is probably a collection of things that other people said to you, about you. I suggest you read some buddhist/yogi texts on the mind if you want to learn about the ego. They have been studying it for thousands of years. Guest guest
Thanks for writing that! that's how I see it too and reading that just lifted me out of it - again ) I've been listening to fearful 'past life experiences' and had forgotten that I always have charge of where I devote my attention. when stuck, I find imagining putting all the thoughts into a cloud in a blue sky then letting the sun burn away the cloud is extremely helpful. I've noticed too my ego is highly imprintable right now and will use whatever it's given to attract attention, so I have to be responsible with what I feed myself - so lots of nature, spending time in my feet and no thanks to the news for now! Thanks again, you've improved my day no end )) Amanda , JiNN <jinnproduction wrote: > > Hi Shaun, Here is my opinion on this. > I define the ego as that thing that talks in your head. > Your ego should be approached very carefully since it is something you do > not have control > of. Guest guest
Hi Amanda, I really like that visualization of your thoughts and clouds...I am going to try that...any others you have found that work for you? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Lorree yes I love it - I found that meditation when I decided to treat myself as if I had anxiety disorder The other one I love is putting myself on a beach and really extending my vision to see the wide horizons, then watching a wave come towards me and filling it with whatever the day's stuff has been. As the wave breaks I see it all breaking up then the water sinks into the sand and fades away taking it all with it, so there's just the wet sand. There's a third which I think is great too. Standing at the bottom of a steep hill, wondering how you're going to get up it and thinking how tired your legs will be.... then feeling yourself being lifted from the ground and just floating round and round and up and up - something you saw as being very difficult being very easy and simple and requiring no effort. I can do it 'awake' now and have established those places in my mind and they really do help if I need to dissolve anything and can't just 'send it away' - but they're enabling my 'sendaway' capacity and I really love them. Most of the stuff I've put in there I couldn't even find if I tried now! )) Amanda , " lorree000 " <lorree000 wrote: > > Hi > Amanda, > > I really like that visualization of your thoughts and clouds...I am going to try that...any others you have found that work for you? > > Thanks! > Lorree > > , " amandatflood " <amandatflood@> wrote: > > > > Thanks for writing that! that's how I see it too and reading that just lifted me out of it - again ) I've been listening to fearful 'past life experiences' and had forgotten that I always have charge of where I devote my attention. > > > > when stuck, I find imagining putting all the thoughts into a cloud in a blue sky then letting the sun burn away the cloud is extremely helpful. > > > > I've noticed too my ego is highly imprintable right now and will use whatever it's given to attract attention, so I have to be responsible with what I feed myself - so lots of nature, spending time in my feet and no thanks to the news for now! > > > > Thanks again, you've improved my day no end )) > > > > Amanda > > > > >
