Guest guest
Hi! I hope this doesn't sound corny, but I am feeling the urge to volunteer with something. Something for my community, but I haven't the faintest idea where to begin. I don't know what I'd like to do, but I know it can't be financial Even something like once a month, just something, just to start out and we'll see where it goes from there. I've been thinking about this for several weeks, and the feeling is getting stronger. I have a weak stomach so anything like EMT or fireman, or anything close to that would not work well for me. I don't know where to start. It's always been about " me " , I haven't been paying attention to those around me, can someone point me in the right direction or give me some options? Thank you and God Bless! Bill
Guest guest
Hi Bill, I don't know where you live, but These are a few ideas. First, what is it you like? Try to find something in line with your skills and interests. having said that, here are a few initial thoughts- volunteer at a hospital holding sick babies. Volunteer at a senior center talking or visiting with seniors. Volunteer at a school helping the little ones read. Volunteer to teach English to your immigrant population. (this one is totally close to my heart). Soup kitchen, homeless shelter, food pantry, womens' shelter, meals on wheels, hospice, ask your pastor/religious leader where you might be of use. You may even have a volunteer services office in your area. If you are of retirement age, there is SCORE, maybe a treatment center or halfway house, volunteer to teach/tutor in your local jail, there are so many needs. Bless you for wanting to do this. I think you'll find that you get so much more than you give, especially if you have the good fortune to establish a relationship with one or two people in need. I am going to print here a quote that I read everyday: (by Jean Vanier, founder of L'Arche) " My heart is transformed by the smile of trust given by some people who are terribly fragile and weak. They call forth new energies from me. they seem to break down barriers and bring me a new freedom.... contact with people who are weak and who are cryingout... is one of the most important nourishments in our lives. When we let ourselves be really touched by the gift of their presence, they leave something precious in our hearts. As long as we remain at the level of " doing " things for people, we tend to remain behind our barriers of superiority. We ought to welcome the gift of the poor with open hands... " That, dear Bill, says it all. Do it, and you will be grateful. un abrazo, shaun I haven't been paying attention to those around me, can someone point me in the right direction or give me some options? > > Thank you and God Bless! > Bill >
Guest guest
Hey Bill, that's great! There's probably a lot of community groups and individuals in your area who could benefit from your energy and presence! Here in my part of the world we have the Maricopa County Volunteer Association, sort of a central clearinghouse of organizations who welcome volunteers. Maybe you have something similar in your area. But let me toss out a few ideas and see if any appeal to you. Local food bank. Anything from telephone work to computer data entry to physically loading the boxes with food to handing them out. Lots of opportunity to spread the magic. Soup lines. Physically serving food to hungry children, women and men. Hands-on opportunity to shaktify the food and feed their souls. Recording services for the blind. Using your voice to shaktify. (Just be gentle on the electronics.) Wildlife Rehab services. Our four-legged and winged relatives would be happy to shaktify you, too. Nursing Homes. Sharing your voice, reading, music, company, presence helps ease the loneliness especially as the holidays approach. Just some thoughts. Gotta run. Guest guest
Hi Bill, This is not a corny idea at all, its natural once the Kundalini has started. I have done various things for charity in my community and abroad. I have a very wide extended family and one year I decided not to spend hundreds of pounds on Christmas and birthday presents, but send clothes and gifts abroad. I chose " Save the Children's village in Lesotho South Africa, where orphans of Aids parents lived and went to school. One year I sent over 200 pounds worth of gifts, clothes, toys etc. I found after 2yrs of this that a lot of my parcels went 'missing'. Especially 12 football strips for the boys that my husband donated. Enough for two five a side teams. The next year I started work in a local charity shop, working in the book dept., sorting donations & selling books to raise money for the charity. As I now work part-time I am unable to put the regular hours into the shop. This year I will be using money I would normally spend on cards and presents for my family to aid a homeless shelter. I often can get socks, scarves, jumpers and men's and women's underwear in the sales. Also shampoo, bath stuff, deodorant etc. I will donate these and also a day or two of my time, over Christmas and New Year so the normal workers can take some time off. You could do any of these things, but as far as the local community is concerned I think giving of ones time is best. You could clear beaches, help paint local halls. Help children to read at school, help out at an old peoples home. They are always looking for male volunteers in our area, to befriend old or disabled boys & men. Mentoring. The world is your oyster Bill, just ask around. I wish you the best of luck. Blessings, Iona x , " astronutski " <astronutski wrote: > > Hi! > > I hope this doesn't sound corny, but I am feeling the urge to volunteer with something. Guest guest
Here in NW PA there is an org. called Big Brothers and Sisters. You spend time with kids who need adult interactions. It may be all over, I don't know. ________________________________ astronutski <astronutski Thu, October 8, 2009 1:50:13 PM Where can I volunteer? Hi! Guest guest
Bill- I have worked with many volunteers and have volunteered myself - the most important thing I feel that is needed is to find something that you like to do - you can push your self and do things that are not comfortable yet - the more you enjoy what you are doing the more you will show that enjoyment to others. Think about what you like to do and what you would like to share. the yellow pages has all the social organizations listed - find one or two go talk with them and see what they need - is it something you can do and will enjoy ?? you are not committed for life - you can change and learn about many situations as you interview for opportunities- service comes in many colors - taste the rainbow of volunteering - I am happy you are being called - we all need to give what we can and do what we can for others- especially those within the Kundalini process - Kundalini loves service and you will know that Shakti loves service - Blessings e

Guest guest
Spending time with local old age people who don't have many family members around them is something easy to do, even arranging some kind of activity for older people to be a part of like game afternoons or walks in the park etc. If nothing exists you could create it and see what happens. What does your area need? Have you spoke to people to find out whats missing in their lives/ community? good luck elektra x x x
