I am having something major stuff going on with my computer. I don't know if

some files were corrupted from the shock it recieved or the monitors is going

out. I am having problems with getting the monitor to turn on and stay on. After

I get it to come on, it will stay on until I leave it too long and it goes into

hibernation. Then I have to try and get it to come back on again, by turning it

off and on several times. I am having to turn it off and on more and more times.

Could any of you techs let me know? Does it sound like the monitors dying? Do I

need to buy a new one?

Thanks ahead of time,

Linda

Linda,

I'm going to assume you're running a Windows operating system. These

instructions will be for XP, I don't have a ton of experience with Vista and am

doing this from an XP machine so these are the instructions I'm going to give

you.

It could be one of several things...

1) First double check all cable connections from monitor to box and AC outlet.

Loose cables would cause problems. Make sure there is a bit of slack in them

and you aren't pulling on them causing them to dislodge.

2) right-click your desktop and select 'properties', then select the 'screen

saver' tab. In there you will see a couple settings such as the type of screen

saver, when it kicks on and if you need a password to come out of the screen

saver to get back to your desktop. Also in there should be a power management

section. Such as power down after x number of minutes....

Change all of those settings to your liking, for instance mine are as follows:

Screen saver - Windows XP (this is not real important)

Wait: 30 minutes

I do NOT have " on resume, password protect " checked.

And in the 'Power' section I have:

Turn off monitor after 1 hour.

Turn off Hard Drives: NEVER

System Standby: NEVER

Play around with some of those settings and adjust to your liking. Also I'm

assuming you're NOT on a laptop, you'll want those power consumption settings

very conservative if you're running on batteries a lot.

Hope some of this helps, YMMV

Love,

Bill

Thanks Warren, I am self taught, as well. I have a Dell desktop XP with no

warranty because I did not have the money to renew it last fall. It's funny all

those year paying the warranty I never had any problems. :)

Yeah, about all I can do right now is pray it continues working.

After the shock treatment it was actually running better, until this week. Maybe

I need to shock it agian, Hehehe!

Hi Linda,

I am no good at sorting out naughty computers and laptops. Sorry! Luckily I have

a friend coming up from England next week who is an expert. She will be looking

over my laptop and purging it of unnecessary files and programmes so it will run

much quicker and smoother.

If you have no luck elsewhere, please post again with as much detail as you can

and I will ask her to reply to you on this forum under my details. I do hope you

dont have to wait that long though.

Blessings, Iona x

Blessings Linda!!!

It might be easier to walk you trough this on chat or something. It is

just that this is taking to long to help you get it resolved. What ever is

comfortable for you. If you want to connect on chat let me know. Pax et bonum.

Warren I do appreciate your help, but I don't feel comfortable trying that

myself. I think I will wait until my daughter comes over tomorrow night and see

what she thinks about a driver update and have her to check for me if it is

needed. Thanks for your help.

In the meantime, I have my monitor set not to turn off.
