I put my hand in the hole and kept a small bag of dirt, which I still have in my jewelry box. It was a peaceful place in autumn some years ago and only about a dozen other people visiting at the time.. It left an impression on me, too. I found the artifacts and abandoned canes, wheelchairs, etc. very touching. Glad you got a chance to go visit there! Hope it helps you. Relief and healing to you soon.
