Thanks Shrikant. - zinnia

Bodhi means enlightened. In Akalravi Jataka there is a story regarding Domestic

cock.

Lord Buddha used to deliver lectures to his students. There was a Bhikku or

student in that period who had habit of shouting in the night when other

students slept. All the students were complaining that this particular student

has habit of making unnecessary noise 3 times inthe night when others slept.

Lord Buddha was passing from there, he heard the discussion of the

student.He told them a story.

This student has habit of shouting not only in this life but he used to shout

like that in previous life also and lost his life due to that.

Once upon a time a King Brahmadutta ruled in Varanasi.Bodhisattva was a

Brahamin in that birth and was a teacher and was teaching 500 students. One of

the student had a cock/domestic fowl who used to cockcrow at the dawn.all

students used to wake up and start their studies. One day cock died. There were no

alarm clocks those days.Students were in search of a new domestic cock. They

found one near a cremation ground. As the cock was born and bred near the

cremation ground he used to crow during midnight or uncertain times..students

also used to wake up and start studies.at dawn they used to feel sleepy.

Sometimes the cock did not crow at dawn so students slepttill late

hours.students thought this cock/domestic fowl is of no use so they strangled

him to death. They told their teacher that they killed the cock/domestic fowl.

Lord Buddha ref. to that particular student and said this student was a cock

in that life,I was Bodhisattva and you all were my students in last life

too.Bodhi is a student on path of enlightenment. Here student who was a cock in

previous life was Bodhi or on path of enlightenment..........shrikant
