Guest guest
dear all, this is a story that has touched me and brought me deep inspiration, I'd like to share with you... lucia ---- the Tale of the sands A stream, from it's source in far off mountains, passing though every kind of countryside, at last reached the sands of the deasert. Just as it had crossed every other barrier, the stream tried to cross this one, but found that as fast as it ran into the sand, it's waters dissapeared. It was convinced, however, that it's destiny was to cross this desert, and yet there was no way. Now a hidden voice, coming from the desert it's self, wispered: " the Wind crosses the desert, and so can the stream " . the stream objected that it was dashing it's self against the sand, and only getting absorbed: the wind could fly, this was why it could cross a desert. " by hurtling in your own accustomed way you cannot get across. eather you disappear or you become a marsh. You must allow the wind to carry you over, to your destination " . but how could this happen? " by allowing yourself to be absorbed by the wind " this idea was not acceptable to the stream. After all, it had never been absorbed before. It did not want to loose it's individuality. And, once having lost it, how was one to know if it could ever be regained? " The wind " , said the sand, " performes this functiom. It takes up water, carries it over the desert, and then lets it fall again. Falling as rain, the water again becomes a river " how can I know this is true? " it is so, and if you do not belive it, you cannot become more then a quagmire, and even that could take many many years; and it certanly is not the same as a stream " . " but can I not remain the same stream I am today? " " you cannot in either case remain so " , the whisper said. " your essential part is carried away and forms a stream again. You are called what you are even today because you do not know which part of you id the essential one " . When he heard this, certain echoes began to arise in the thoughts of the stream. Dimly, he remembered a state in which he - or some part of him, was it? - had been held in the arms of a wind. He also remembered - or did he? - that this was the real thing, not necessarely the obvious thing, to do. And the stream raised his vapour into the welcoming arms of the wind, which gently and easily bore it upwards and along, letting it fall softly as soon as they reached the roof of a mountain, many many miles away. ANd because he had had his doubts, the stream was able to remember and record more strongly in his mind the details of the experience. He reflected, " yes, now I have learned my true identity " . The stream was learning. but the sands wispered: we know, because we see it happen day after day: and because we, the sands, extend from the riverside all the way to the mountain " . And that is why it is said taht the way in which the Stream of Life is to continue on it's journey is written in the Sands.
Guest guest
Dear Lucia, what a beautifully gentle yet powerful whisper you've shared. I can experience the story so vividly. This is so meaningful to me personally. Thank you. " ...You must allow the wind to carry you over, to your destination " . .... " by allowing yourself to be absorbed by the wind " ....It did not want to loose it's individuality. And, once having lost it, how was one to know if it could ever be regained? ....He also remembered - or did he? - that this was the real thing, not necessarily the obvious thing, to do. Guest guest
hi dhyana, I saw after I posted you had sent a story too today, just a while before, I smiled at that it's form a book of tales form the dervishes I have, and that is one I keep going back to... it has inspired a new meditation for me... letting myself evaporate, dissolve, melt in to the surrounding darkness of my closed eyes and allowing myself to feel this. it's a very beautiful filling feeling, I mean to try explore it more deeply. danielle, I have not been very active on the forum of late but you are in my thoughts often.. love, lucia , " novalees " <dhyana wrote: > > Thank you Lucia, that is one of my very favorites > and I haven't had a copy of it for a long time. > > Love, dhyana > > , " lari.lu " <lari.lu@> wrote: > > > > dear all, > > this is a story that has touched me and brought me deep inspiration, I'd like to share with you... > > > > lucia > > > > ---- > > the Tale of the sands > > >

Guest guest
Hi Lucia, Yes, allowing the Divine to evaporate us and carry us across the " desert " is the ultimate in surrender imho. When we come to the place where of ourselves we can go no further, its comforting to know that a helping hand is there to take over and carry us the rest of the way.
