Guest guest
Thank you dear for your kind words ...I am fortunate to be a part of this community. ) As you have mentioned the KAS1 Web Site I would like to share with everyone that traffic continues to increase each and every month as more seekers discover chrism's teachings and Shakti's embrace. The daily average has doubled over the last year and KAS1 currently enjoys around 10,000 visits per month with 30,000 pages being viewed. There are hundreds of documents awaiting inclusion in the articles and I have been attempting to work out a " content management " solution to enable new content to be simply added. This is not my forte and the more I research the more confusing it becomes! ) So... Please... If someone has used some sort of web content management and has the time to assist I would be very appreciative of the assistance or advice. Guest guest
Hi Glen, I don't know any content management solutions off hand, but if you need help editing / maintaining the site I can help out. Not sure what language the site is written in but I do asp.net for work, so let me know. The only thing is that I have a very fluid schedule and might not be able to assist on regular basis. Guest guest
Hi Mike, Thank you for your generous offer of assistance in the maintenance of the KAS1 web site. The site has not been written in any language aside from straight html as each page has been created individually. There are currently over 350 pages with at least 150 pages awaiting inclusion. It would be much smoother and easier if (for instance) a database was created which new articles (in text format) are added to, then pages can be created " on the fly " when articles are requested by site visitors. This would (to my reasoning) be the most efficient way of allowing new articles to be added? Or maybe some sort of blog based articles section? Aside from ease of maintenance the other additions could be the facility to add comments below the articles and maybe a star rating system so ultimately the highest rated articles can be requested as part of an article search? If anyone has any ideas or comments please don't be backwards in coming forwards! lol All my best, Glen. ) , JiNN <jinnproduction wrote: > > Hi Glen, > > I don't know any content management solutions off hand, but if you need > help editing / maintaining the site I can help out. Guest guest
Sounds like the best solution would be PHP. What do you think Glen? I could design the database structure, if someone knows PHP, we can work together. Guest guest
Glen, My thanks to you for maintaining the KAS site and to Mike and others who have so generously volunteered their time and experience. Personally, I would recommend looking at some off the shelf forum management packages. If we buy one of these packages, the site just has to be administered, instead of having to code, test, and continually enhance our own custom software and HTML. (I once wrote a content management system in the days before the internet was universally available - if I were asked now, I'd just buy some forum management software.) Forum management packages are used on just about every forum one visits on the internet. They usually provide ways for users to: - join/ - specify how they want to be notified of new postings - go in and click on " new postings " to see the most recent postings - add content - comment on/have conversations about content - contact other users - all sorts of ways to search and index the articles - embed music, video, and youtube video - post photos and other types of files - ability to rate articles - many other features From an admin perspective: - control access ( " guest " , member, ability to create new topics vs. comment on existing, etc.) - create groups of topics, topics and so on - you'd need to see how deep this can go in terms of nested subtopics - broadcast moderator emails to the membership - make certain posts sticky, so they always appear the the top (e.g., info about an upcoming seminar) - other features as well Some of these packages are free, some are remarkably inexpensive. A free one that my dojo uses is SMF from SimpleMachines (http://www.simplemachines.org/). This would be an inexpensive, low-end solution. It would probably not provide all the features we'd like to see. Another package that seems much more fully-featured is vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/). Their basic forum software (vBulletin Forum Classic) sells for $195 and their higher end package, which has more and better content management features, sells for $285. My recommendation would be to buy vBulletin's higher end package. One of the homeschooling forums I belong to uses it and it is very impressive. If you want to look, here's that forum: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/index.php. I have also noticed that many other forums use vBulletin as well. If desired, this could also be used to eventually replace the with a forum that is better organized, easy to search, etc. If you decide to go this route, I think that we, as a community, could manage to raise $285 to spring for a platform for Chrism's work. Guest guest
Hi David and thanks for your comments and suggestions. There is another project to compile and make accessible chrism's teachings that a few people on this forum are involved with. has mentioned this on a few occasions. Forum software might be more appropriate for this venture although I think they have ideas to use other software. At any rate, I see many of the software features and your suggestions as being of benefit within this scenario. This project is a complimentary venture and another avenue to allow chrism's teachings to reach more seekers and more firmly establish his presence. As for the KAS1 web site, imho, I see it best positioned as a static (though expanding) resource presented with an alternate focus from the article database format provided above. I am thinking maybe it is best to just continue to create the pages one by one - it feels less clinical than having " software allocate text to templates when requested " . lol At least that way pages get proof-read properly, pertinent links get added and an appropriate picture is paired with each article. anyway..., it just seemed like a lot to do when I thought about it but now i realize its all relative; its neither a lot nor a little, it just is... , " djgottlieb " <dgottlieb wrote: > > > Glen, > > My thanks to you for maintaining the KAS site and to Mike and others who have so generously volunteered their time and experience. > > Personally, I would recommend looking at some off the shelf forum management packages. Guest guest
Hello techy fellas We have attempted to gather info for an archive site but keep running in to problems- We need a particular type of site where we can maintain the authority of the records yet allow folks to download - members only we think. Gabriel has set up a site yet am not sure that it will do what we need- Gabriel has been offering suggestions - he is open to share ideas - I am not knowledgeable enough to know the how tos - I think I know what we need - two things really - one site where members can access the work we are doing on the archives and then we need a way to preserve the postings as they read - a back up - there are various software programs that may work - Gabriel tried one and it failed he never got a response from the company - Glen I know how much time this all takes and you are correct - it seems daunting - and yes it is important to edit and add the links for each article - perhaps there is someone you can show the how to that may be interested in helping you so it is not all on your shoulders. And I understand the wanting to preserve your format - it is working and is wonderful - it offers us ways to bring the teachings to life - I love using the links and I do so miss the search box - I used that alot and will need one for future work. I would love to offer to help yet have abit on my plate here. I value the work you have done and understand the feeling of whoa this is big !!! I feel tha same about the archive project - it is huge and will take time. So what about a committee to look over the needs- there will be future needs as well when the nonprofit is set up and with chrism wanting to do utube videos - there will be a need for a site - would love to see a comprehensive site that offers access to utube and products and offerings of the teachings, etc. And there is a need to have a site where chrism can offer ebooks and his recordings- all one site would be great I think then again what do I know?? Other than I like things easily accessed and in one place - too many links and sites may offer a chance for folks to find the program in multiple ways yet can be very disjointed - Being a librarian order is important and easy access of utmost importance. This is all my opinion- am not speaking for the guide here. Just things I see a need for. Do let me know if anyone has any ?s as to what we need for the archive project. Thank you e
