t.p.ramanathan
Is it right for an iyer boy to marry an Iyengar girl ? Is this allowed in our scripts ? If not, may i kindly know the reason ? And if the iyers are ready to extend their hands, will the iyengars accept ?
harik
Why not. All these differences have cropped up in the last 500 years.
narayanankr
Of course yes & why not ? So much so even the marriage amongst the sub-sect classification within Iyers ( such as Vadama , Bracharanam, Athista ) are acceptable. All these sub-classes are time related creation . Just as a reverse logic , having accepted the Gothra theory - it is foolish to distinguish a Bhardwaj Iyengar is any different for Bharadwaj Iyers. In the past the customs and traditions ( for Homa Samskaram ) deviated from one sect and other. It is only the acceptability that matters and anything is dogmatic and superstitious. Sri Sarma Sastrigal
Why not? Sastras do permit marriages between Iyers and Iyengars. In fact, nowadays we come across several such marriages taking plae. And I myself have performed such few of them Sarma Sastrigal
