Guest guest
Local firefighters from the cities of Salem and Spanish Fork manned the admission gate at the Krishna Temple's Annual festival of India last Saturday night (Sept 15th) A big sign posted at the gate indicated that all proceeds were to be forwarded to the NY City Firefighters fund. The fireman did a great job, making themewselves conspicuous by parking an offical fire truck at the entrance and wearing their uniforms. Four five hours they took turns in shifts and collected the $2 per adult $1.00 children admission fees as well as additional donations people wanted to give. Dr, Dinesh and Kalpana Patel early on gave $1,000.00. Tom Roe, the Fire Marchall for Utah County, was on hand throughout, and said, These firemen are very touched by the Krishna's temple's decision to turn over these hard earned proceeds in this hour of need. By evening's end there wasn't an exact count as everyone was so exhaused from collecting, but it appeared to be about $6,000.00, according to the firemen. Throughout the festival, there were tributes made to the heroic firemen who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. The festival itself, through Indian, dance, music, cuisine, culture, art, and drama celebrated the diversity which has made America strong.
