Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj

Sri Sri Guru-Gaurangau Jayatah

Srila Govinda Maharaj, the spiritual master of the holy temple Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math at Nabadwip in Bengal, India, will be making his fifth visit to Australia from 23 April to 17 May 1999. He will be staying at the Sri Govinda Dham ashram at Uki, and the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Sridhar Sangha ashram at The Channon in Northern New South Wales.

Srila Govinda Maharaj will be giving discourses to newcomers about how to attain inner fulfilment, and giving spiritual initiation to sincere seekers who are searching for a positive life of immortality.

Srila Govinda Maharaj has been invited to attend the Nimbin Mardi Grass festival as the special guest of honour. This festival at Nimbin in Northern New South Wales is attended by tens of thousands of people each year. Srila Govinda Maharaj has said that the tamoguna atmosphere of the Mardi Grass is "the territory of Shiva", so on Saturday night May 1, the ancient pagan holiday of May Day, Srila Govinda Maharaj will be delivering a lecture about Shiva and the teachings of the Veda on the main stage at the Mardi Grass.

Srila Govinda Maharaj is a teacher of the spiritual philosophy of the Veda, the ancient cultural heritage of India. He was recognized as a perfect, liberated person by Om Vishnupad Srila Sridhar Maharaj, the leader of the Chaitanya Saraswat spiritual lineage at Nabadwip, a holy place on the Ganges in Bengal, India.

He was just sixteen years old when he met Srila Sridhar Maharaj in 1943, and after only three or four days Srila Sridhar Maharaj made a public announcement that this boy would be his successor and Guru of the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat lineage.

Teaching that everything around us has come to us because of our karma, Srila Govinda Maharaj says, "Show love for all living beings and you will see a deeper vision of the world of love beyond this world of karma."

He says tolerance, loving kindness and respect for the feelings of others are the preliminary steps on the path of spiritual life. If we are focus on these basic spiritual principles and practice chanting the Hari-nama mantra, with proper meditation, then our steady progress along the path will be assured, and one day we will reach our goal.

Srila Govinda Maharaj will be accompanied on this visit to Australia by Sripad B A Sagar Maharaj of London, Sripad B R Paramahamsa Maharaj of Nabadwip, Sripad B P Tirtha Maharaj from Calcutta and Sripad B A Tridandi Maharaj from New Zealand. While staying at Sri Govinda Dham in Australia, the sannyasis plan to go out each day visiting towns and villages in the surrounding region, spreading the message of the Divine Master.
