January 14th is Makar Sankranti (the day when the Sun starts his northern journey). So what? Well, it is also the day when, in 1978, Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari opened Their temple in Bombay. Overseen by three big Government ministers and thousands of dignitaries and devotees, the priest, Nrsimha, performed the prana pratistha. Since that day, Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari temple has been a world leader in book distribution, life membership, street sankirtan, and Food for Life. We have many Rathayatras throughout the year, and we have the largest active congregations in the world (many initiated devotees). Our fund raising is a model for temples worldwide. On Sundays, the crowd reaches 25,000 +, and on special holidays it is more (especially when there is nothing interesting on TV). On Janmasthami the crowds surge to well over 500,000 (by police estimates). All the mercy of the most merciful Srila Prabhupada and his Lord Rasabihari. To celebrate this auspicious day we are holding a grand festival. And you are invited ! It will also be a reunion of devotees who were here during those pioneering days. In fact the major stress will be on Prabhupada katha. Srila Prabhupada spent more time at Hare Krsna Land than at any other temple in the world. A whole volume of the Lilamrta is dedicated primarily to Bombay. There are so many stories untold and to be retold..... ......by Saurabha das, Syamasundara das, Brahmananda das, Gargamuni das, Guru das, Madhudvisa das, Sruta Kirti das, Nistraigunya das, Ekanatha das, Jagat Purusa das, Kausalya dasi, Srimati dasi, (possibly Yamuna dasi), Moksa Laxmi dasi, Abhinanda das, Pundarika das, Aditya dasi, Giriraja Swami, Radhanatha Swami, Gopala Krsna Goswami, Lokanatha Swami, Swarupa Damodar Swami, Sacinandana Swami, Niranjana Swami, Indradyumna Swami, and a host of others. Please, Please, Please come and rejoice! For all foreign visitors, we will take care of all your accommodations and food requirements with all three temples working together to please you. As I said, the main emphasis will be on Prabhupada katha, but there will be many cultural events including a three-cart Rathayatra in the vicinity of the temple and full use of the auditorium. Annapayini dasi, Hema Malini, and a host of other world-renowned performers will be offering their service in the form of concerts. Hope to see you there.
