I am a student at the Unversity of South Florida and I am writing a paper for my world religions class. I am hoping someone might be interested in sharing some information for me as one practicing the religion.

We are to write on the traditional vs. the contemporary forms of a religion (I picked Hinduism), particularly how it is practiced in America today. I am focusing on the changes in interpretations of the Bhagavad Gita. I need to address how it is practiced in America so I figured I would focus on ISKCON practices since it has been a recent religious movement in the U.S. based on Hinduism.

If anyone has answers to these questions and would like to share with me, please e-mail me at nyssa@tampabay.rr.com within the next week. Thank you.

How is the Bhagavad Gita involved in your practice?

How have translations effected the meaning of the Bhagavad Gita?

What does the Bhagavad Gita have to teach someone living in modern America?

How is bhagavad-gita involved in our practise?

It is the sum and substance of our philosophy, just as Krishna spoke it to Arjuna. Prabhupada, founder/acharya of this movement speeks it to us as it is same as Arjuna heard it. There is no other way to present the bhagavad-gita other than the way Krishna spoke it.

How have translations effected the meaning of the bhagavad-gita?

Prabhupada's translation has not effected the meaning in any way it is as it was spoken thousands of years ago. Some translations try to say that the meaning of the bhagavad-gita is this or that other than the way Krishna spoke it. You can not get the full meaning that way.

What does the bhagavad-gita have to teach someone living in modern america?

It can teach us the most important knowledge, how to become happy, what our posistion is in this material world, who we really are and so much more. So much more great knowledge can be had within its covers
