Guest guest
Hare Krishna, Could somebody post quotes direct from Vedic scriptures (not purports) about why eating meat, garlic, onions or mushrooms is wrong? I couldn't find anything in the Gita which explicitly addresses the sins of eating such foods. Haribol, Nimesh
Darukadas
As much as I know it is mention in Manu Samhita(it is not sruti scripture, it is smrti scripture) chapter 5. verse 5. "5. Garlic, leeks and onions, mushrooms and (all plants), springing from impure (substances), are unfit to be eaten by twice-born men." I did not remember that anybody claim that it is sin. It is jus unfit for pepole who are on spiritual path.
Guest guest
Thanks for the info, it cleared a lot up... I know meat eating is forbidden under the 4 regulative principles - what scripture do they come from?
Guest guest
Introduction to Bhagavad Gita: Animals can kill other living animals, and there is no question of sin on their part, but if a man kills an animal for the satisfaction of his uncontrolled taste, he must be responsible for breaking the laws of nature. you should also read Chpt. 14 verse 16. Chpt 16. Verse 9. from Srimad Bhagavatam sixth canto: part two. chpt.10 verse 9. etavan avyayo dharmah punya-slokair upasitah yobhuta-soka-harsabhyam atma socati hrsyati also Srimad Bhagavatam tenth canto part two chapter 10 verse 9, 10, 12 and 14. those are a few that talk about the sinfulness of meat eating, which is much more offensive than eating garlic and mushrooms.
