Guest guest
Does anyone have any advice on the following: I never know whether to use my devotee name or my legal name when telling someone my name. I have lots of people who nnow me as my legal name, but also a lot (especially friends) who know me by my devotee name. It didn't use to be so much of a problem- legal name for work, devotee name for friends, but lately I've found the lines between work and friendship bending and as I result I have lots of people calling me different things! I'd like to stick with one, but if I use my devotee name in my business work it gets chaotic - people can't remember my name or pronounce it. Anyone any similar experiences and/or advice? Guest guest
Unless you want to legally change your karmi name to devotee name, use karmi name in all work situations, even if it seems you're bonding. These work bonds can tend to break apart then they use religion against you.
Guest guest
If one is with devotees, the name of the self is valid, when within a situation that pertains to the body (taxes, job, school, etc), the name of the body will suffice. However, if at work, one is trying to do preaching (by injecting philosophy into normal conversation, a very enlightened way to go about ones business), a good preaching tool is to let the person know what name one was given by, guru, what the name means, why the guru gives one a name upon initiation, etc. I had done this at a former job with the US Department of the Navy, and pretty soon, some captains and even one admiral, would call me mahaksa. Without the das, mahaksa is like saying Krsna, and even if ones initiated name is like siva, or arjuna, or other names not directly referring to the Supreme personality of Godhead, to chant the names of such great devotees is also very beneficial to all who say or hear, maybe even more potent than our feeble attempts to spout philosophy =;-) Hope this idea helps, hare krsna, ys cooperation.
