I understand in the mantra we say "Hare Krishna" because Krsna is the name of God, but out of the other avataras of Krsna why do you say "Hare Rama" in the other half of the mantra? what I'm asking is why is Rama specified to closest beside Krsna?

all of the avatars names are the same as krishna, like caitanya, but why out of them all did they pick rama? why wasnt it another avatar's name? is their a reason for it?

Hare Krishna

No one manufactures a mantra by picking "best" names; they come from spiritual world.

Rama is not just avataar's name. People were chanting Rama before the advent of Rama-avataar on earth (though, of course , lila-avataars are also eternal and that Krishna and Rama are the same).

Rama means embodiment of infinite trancendental bliss.

Rama is also used for Radhika-Ramana. Srila Prabhupada says that it also means Lord Balarama.

rama is the transcendental word which means '' the pleasure potency of lord's name'',krsna, rama are on same level, they are placed for describing the lord's trasnscendentel features.krsna means ''the all-attractive'' and rama ''the expansion of pleasure potency in transcendental bliss''......hare krsna
