Guest guest
Hare Krsna! I know Srila Prabhupada and other previous acharyas recommend reading the scriptures as they are, and do not condone reading them in an interpretive way or in an allegorical fashion. I was just wondering if someone could elucidate the reasons/philosophy behind this. Also, does this apply to all scriptures, i.e. scriptures from other religions? Thanks alot All glories to Srila Prabhupada!!!
Guest guest
The idea is to get the real meaning of the scriptures. For one not learned in the scriptures or any subject matter, when studying the subject without guidance, their mind can form a variety of speculative theories which risk giving one the wrong meaning. Learned acharyas like HDG Srila Prabhupada are experts in the shastras and know the real meaning. Reading commentaries of expert Acharyas will give one the real meaning of the shastras. This applies to scriptures of all religions. The learned scholars of each religion can give the real meaning of their scriptures. The learned scholars of any subject matter know the real meaning of the subject. Someone with a PHD degree in XYZ is who to learn XYZ from.
