Guest guest
Hi, I'm a NRI hindu girl living in a country where hinduism is not the dominant religion. I am proud of my religion...and i have been reading up scriptures to learn more about hinduism and have been using this discussion forum to learn more. I have a couple of questions though - just to satisfy my own curiousity - is respect for the cow mentioned in any of the holy scriptures or do hindu's do this out of respect for the fact that the cow is Krishna's favorite animal? Do the scriptures prohibit consumption of meat? Do they directly say "do not eat meat"? Someone on this list server once posted that: "Krishna says in one of our scriptures, that even if one comes in contact with the person who has eaten from what one gest milk from (holy cow), one should dip in Ganges 100 times to purify oneslef." Did Krishna really say this? Is this really true? I look forward to learning more from you all.
