Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple has been selected in the new list and voting is going on for the first seven position. Now it is in 26th place & Tajmahal is in 5th Position. It depends on how much vote it gets in the internet selection, being organised by the "World's new seven wonders' selection committee. The Temple had so far secured 2.5 lakh votes in favour of it, including some from foreign countries, and had moved to 25th place among the 66 shortlisted by the committee. Though Meenakshi temple, with four magnificent towers, splendid sculptures and divine architecture, had been shortlisted, it was yet to get sufficient votes to reach the top-seven, according to the temple officials. "With many more days (February 27, 2005) to go for the final selection', the officials of the temple were confident that the Meenakshi temple would get a place in the top as more and more people voting for it. An official of the temple said that the Swiss-based committee, which conducted the selection of 'new seven wonders' through internet, would shortlist 21 wonder-sites from among the long list of 66 in the first phase. If the voting continues in this fashion, then definitely there will be a scope for Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, India to get into the First Round. This is the right time for the INDIANS to show their UNITY across the world & they can take the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple into the New Seven Wonder's list.
