Samkhya
Hello, Have you heard of supernatural powers acquired through meditation? If such powers exist, is not it a proof of the value of meditation?
ggohil
Any supernatural ability acquired in process of meditation or spiritual awareness is, I believe, incidental. Acquisition of such abilities is not the ultimate goal of meditation; hence it cannot serve as a proof.
Guest guest
it is a side effect, or at least one of the goals, if you want it to be a goal.
Samkhya
My point is that if meditation is accompanied by supernatural powers, it seems that they cannot be explained naturalistically. One cannot say, for instance, that the effects of meditation (samadhi) is due to some change in the brain and nothing more.
ggohil
If one employs the display of supernatural abilities to prove the effects of Meditation, then one will attract people towards meditation or self-realization for wrong reasons. This practice would be self-defeating.
Guest guest
To actually achive powers you must be pure in your meditaion. But here are some I found: >Remember your past Lives >Gain knowledge of past and future events >Read other people's minds >Become invisible. >Gain charateristics of certain animals. >Gain full knowledge of cosmology. >Communicate with higher beings in subtle worlds. >Enter someone elses body after it's soul has departed. >Travel without your physical body. >Gain any infornation out of the Universe that you may have use for. samsara
well, to meditate, you need to concentrate on something, and reach the state when you disallow other thoughts. By the way guys, do we need to be PURE in the meditation? I haven't heard of that before.
