maadhav
all have not the same ability to understand scripture(s). hence a guru is need to guide/interpret. personally one may choose to live by any scripture, vyasadev did not write purnas for nothing. he had a purpose. the last and best purana he wrote is srimad bhagvatam. no vaishanv aacharya has said to dump it. to dump bhagavtam is to dump vaishnavism, bhakti yoga. Guest guest
As a whole the Puranas themselves have caused alot of sectarian problems amongst Hindus. It is in the category of smriti, which means it is subordinate to the shrutis. I also find the stories in the Puranas very hard to believe, even if I try. I would agree that we need proper gurus to interpret the puranas but I still think more emphisis should be placed on the Shrutis. If people want the puranas they can have them, but I myself cannot believe in them literally.
