Manisha claims she was Suman in previous birth

Sonia Sarkar / New Delhi

Satyajit Ray's classic creation- Sonar Kella (Golden Fortress) has come alive in the Capital, as the protagonist of the film Mukul has got a real life persona in five-year-old Manisha who claimed to recall her last birth as Suman.

Suman was 15 when she died on December 14, 2000 after a bout of typhoid, in Zamrudpur in south Delhi. Manisha was born to Rampal and Khilli Devi from Milakpur near Alwar in Rajasthan with vivid memories of her last birth. Ever since she was two years old, she had been telling her "new parents" that she was Suman and not Manisha. As she grew older, she apparently started recalling more details about her past life and told her parents that her father's name was Kamal and her mother's was Santosh.

On the day of Suman's shraddh, this little girl once again entered the lives of Suman's family. In a touching reunion, she recognised Chaudhary Kamal Singh from among a group and ran into his arms unafraid and clung to him calling him 'papa'. She also correctly identified her mother from her previous birth.

Manisha doesn't speak too much, she prefers to let her pencil talk for her: "Mujhe pencil gol gol ghumana achha lagta hain (I love playing with pencil and paper)." A sincere student of Class XI, Suman was very fond of studies. Most of the time, Manisha also talked about her school-Andhra Education Society in Pushp Vihar and after reaching her old home in Delhi, the first thing she did was to identify her school uniform.

She even recalled the days spent with her old school friends- Pooja and Babita and also identified the grocery shop, which she frequented.

Like Suman, Manisha too prefers hygienic surroundings and loves to spend hours on her own. "Akele mein rehana pasand hain (I like to stay on my own)," she said. kaju barfi and rasmallai- are her favourite sweets and rajma chawal too..

Both families are awestruck by this amazing coincidence and have accepted the little child's narrative of facts without any doubts of their own . Suman's parents have even removed the garland that hung around her photograph . Simple folk they accept it as god's will .In the mean time, as news of this amazing case spread Kamal Singh's house was thronged by the curious and the believers, all wanting to get a glimpse of this 'born-again'daughter.

Talking about re-incarnation renowned parapsychologist Ven S Dhammika said, "Not only is there scientific evidence to support the Buddhist belief in rebirth, it is the only after-life theory that has any evidence to support it. There is not a scrap of evidence to prove the existence of heaven and of course evidence of annihilation at is also lacking. But during the last 30 years we have been studying reports that some people have vivid memories of their former lives." Thomas Huxley, who was responsible for having science, introduced into the 19th century British school system and who was the first scientist to defend Darwin's theories, believed that reincarnation was a very plausible idea.

In his famous book 'Evolution and Ethics and other Essays', he said. "In the doctrine of transmigration, whatever its origin, Brahmanical and Buddhist speculation found, ready to hand, the means of constructing a plausible vindication of the ways of the cosmos to man. Yet this plea of justification is not less plausible than others; and none but very hasty thinkers will reject it on the ground of inherent absurdity. Like the doctrine of evolution itself, that of transmigration has its roots in the world of reality; and it may claim such support, as the great argument from analogy is capable of supplying.

Jai Sriman Narayan:

Can you please specify what type of proof you want? The soul is not visible (atleast to the human eye), so (for example) even if it is talking you cant see who is talking, so we cant say it is the soul.

So,what kind of proof are you looking for? I will then see how to prove it in your way.

It is a proof of reincarnation.

So it can also be considered a proof of Karma theory.

It is a disproof of "Judgement day" which states once died you don't get a rebirth or another chance.
