When he looks at it, does he feel affection towards the picture?? No. he feels the affection towards his son. the picture is just a reminder, a sort of medium to feel that affection. get it? The worship of God through 'statues' is known as murti worship. And not all Hindu's follow murti worship, it depends on the path the Hindu is on. Manily those who follow bhakti yoga perform murti worship. It may be against other religions to worship God with the aid of images but it is not against the Hinduism.
