Bhakta Shakta
Hi. I do not know how to calculate Ekadasi or what the regulations are for fasting on Ekadasi. If the swanlike devotees could explain these things to me, I would be able to start fasting on Ekadasi. Thankyou. Jaya Prabhupada.
viji_53
Ekadasi comes twice a month. 11th day after every Amavasya(Newmoon day) & 11 th day after every Full Moon day. If possible try to fast with out eating anything. If you can not do that try to eat just fruits or veg. Avoid eating rice that day. Actually Upavas means live near God , more than avoiding food you should try to remember God throught the day. Talk about God & spend your time in thinking about HIM. HariBhol! Jahnava Nitai Das
There is a software called VCAL that calculates the exact timings for ekadashi based on one's location. It is available in the download section on this site. The program actually calculates the entire year calendar with important festival days for Vaishnavas, and as such the ekadashis are included.
