Gauracandra
Did any of you by chance catch the series on the History Channel last week titled "Egypt: Land of the Gods"? Unfortunately, I missed most of it, and only caught a few hours here and there. They were looking into Egyptian religious practices and how they have influenced Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religions. For the Christian connection to Egypt they brought up the Coptic Christian Sect. From the little I saw they didn't go into a whole lot of detail. I seem to recall that Coptics are to some degree vegetarian. Maybe a year or so ago I saw a program on Egypt and they described their creation story. It was very interesting in parallels to the Vedic creation. In the beginning a golden lotus emerged from the waters of the universe. When it unfolded the sun god was born. I thought it was symbolically interesting as a connection to Lord Brahma.
