melvin Posted June 20, 2000 Report Share Posted June 20, 2000 My dear Prabhu, I`m not a dermatologist but a family doctor, although my father, Mario Sr., is a dermatologist as well as a pathologist, who is teaching these subjects from the me- dical school where I graduated on 1983, Gullas College of Medicine. All I could say about your illness, Psoria- sis, is that it`s a chronic disease, which of the immune variety. Meaning, that it`s a type of generalized or localized skin allergy that affects the scalp, the skin in the neck, the lower extremities esp. the elbows, the anterior surfaces of knee, legs, and feet. It`s manifestations are provoked by eating foods that have allergins in it, or when you are subjected to stress, mental- ly or physically. Since medical scientists can`t pin-point the real cause of this skin disease called Psoriasis- your skin where the disease lies is thickened because of the itchiness and erythema(redness) brought about by the immunologic changes taking place in the diseased skin. Some doctors also refer this problem as skin asthma (You develop symptoms of bronchial asthma if you are exposed to allergins, such as dust or pollens, by inhaling them.)Same goes with Psoriasis, but only through some allergenic food taken orally, or allergenic substances sticking to a hypersensitive skin giving rise to a disease called contact dermatitis. Psoriasis therefore is very hard to cure if there`s any. A psoriatic skin however can be relieved by using preparations in ointment or cream that contains corticosteroids. Some resort to using ultraviolet rays known as PUVA to alleviate it.Or others may resort to taking a drug called metothrexate, a drug used in treating certain types of cancer, etc. I believe, however, that Psoriasis maybe genetic in its causation or could be caused by an un-resolved conflict known as stress. Krishna consciousness cures this condition, although material science has not proven it yet. I could tell you another disease which is very hard to cure, KANSR. But that is not our story, so I just have to tell it in another venue if a case such as this comes along. Good luck and Hare Krishna. It's a patch on my right elbow, a dime sized patch on my right thumb and another on my right thigh. Go figure. Anyhow, desperate to find a way to deal with this, I have tried everything, including colloidal silver. the only thing that seems to help reduce the redness, raised quality and flaking is, believe it or not ANUSOL! I figured if it could help hemmoroids, then i'd try it on my elbow. I have to debride the patches every few days with a psoriasis shampoo and rub it extra well when towel drying, but the anusol helps the redness and raised nature of the patch. At any rate, psoriasis is curable, but since it is an internal rpoblem coming to the skin, it needs to be treated internally also. Topical ointments are the WORST YOU CAN DO! Your body has, in its sickness - which equals a cleanup - opened the back door, so the dirt can come out = psoriasis. If you now close the door - by putting topical ointments, which are moreover often cortisone based - you force the body to seek another outlet. In other words, it will open the windows/you will get it also in another place. Now if you are in England, I am in Amsterdam and maybe we could arrange a meeting. I have experience with this disease as a homoeopath and can show you cured cases, one who had it all over his body, oozing serum, now practically clean. it took me a year and a half. Believe me it really works....go to a clinic near u to do the cleansing....or search internet and find one close to u. Must be done under supervision. This year, in a bid to avoid knee surgery for rapidly deteriorating knees, my doctor (the same one who recommended yoga & meditation instead of drugs) suggested that I try the low carb diet (aka atkins) to lose weight quickly, then continue with a low glycemic index diet plan to take some pressure off my knees. Since I am at risk for type II diabetes, this seemed a good situation. I am 20 pounds lighter then I was 5 weeks ago.... So what does this have to do witb psoarisis? My psoarisis has cleared up. Both lower arms and lower legs were covered with plaques that resisted all treatments - even UV which did help, but not send it into remission. An unexpected benefit to be sure! I started eating 1/2 cup of yogurt and milk every other day and my skin is now clearing. I used to rely mostly on veggies and very rarely consumed milk and milk products (even though they are not especially high in zinc content the zinc in dairy products is more readily absorbed than that in vegetables) until i found out about how the high phytates level in vegetables reduce zinc absorption which in turn causes skin problems, hair loss, etc... I'd suspect zinc deficiency but you should consult a dermatologist. If you smear ointments, you will drive it inside. if you like spicy and salty foods, try Homoeopathic Natrum muriaticum. if it is dry and very itchy, worse from bathing, Sulphur may be the remedy, or even Rhus toxicodendron. Graphites if it is very dry and not itchy. take as little as possible - that is, whenever it becomes worse again, after the first dose. What you want to do is get two bottles of sulphur (one with Potency 1m and the other with potency 30 C). Take the potency 1m only for one day but three times with interval of 20 minutes. then next day take 30 C three times a day for about 5 days. If there is improvement then continue 30C till all Gone. else quit taking Sulphur as it is not working. Once all gone do not continue with remedy.
