Jahnava Nitai Das
Yes, there is. Messages that are not spiritual discussions will be deleted and IPs of offending posters will be banned.
Guest guest
Mods Thanks for response. But you have not convinced as to why Brides of Christ aka Christian conversion is not applicable here since if you do a search on Jesus on these forums there are several topics. Also while you are at it would you mind explaining your logo. Answer without delay immediately.
theist
guest:"Answer without delay immediately." Isn't this a little childish. You make demands for an immediate response like people have nothing else going on in their lives but to respond to you.Think first, then post and be polite, please. Jahnava Nitai Das
Dear Guest: 1) Agenda posts are deleted. 2) Spam is deleted. 3) Posts in wrong forums are deleted. IPs who do the above get banned. Since AOL gives several different IPs each time you dial up, you will be able to hang around awhile till all your IPs get banned. raga
Can't you ban a certain range of IPs? Works at least on our board, I believe it is a very common feature.
Jahnava Nitai Das
I can ban IP ranges, but I dont want to ban other users of AOL from other nearby cities, so I was doing it the slow way.
raga
I believe generally those on a dial-up connection (dynamic IPs) get an address where the last one or two digits change. Guest X would then have 12.345.123.110-12.345.123.120 or so at his disposal and you could safely ban the range from 110-120. Of course if his next door neighbor would happen to be a serious spiritualist, he might get unnecessarily banned because of his inconsiderate neighbor Guest X. But then, on the other hand, Guest X:s old IP could be assigned to him any moment too. I hope people will remember to take their brain off the shelf and put it back in their good heads before they go and post into forums about spirituality. It would be very helpful to both visitors and administrators.
Jahnava Nitai Das
Unfortunately AOL is giving big ranges, like in this case 172.34 - 172 .65 (second digit variable, not only third). I dont want to ban the complete 172.x IP, as it is too broad. So I am slowly banning each exact one as they come up.
raga
That would be too broad, true. Was there any conclusion over allowing guests to specify a name in their post? Also, what about allowing guests to reply to topics but not to create new topics?
shvu
Since AOL is allocating dynamic IPs, isn't it possible that AOL may allocate one of the banned IPs to some other AOL user and this person may not be able to access the forums? vsdprasad
AOL has an IP range from 172.128.0.0 - 172.191.255.255, i.e there are (191-128)*255*255= 4096575, i.e there are about 4 million IPs that are reserved for AOL. Instead of banning all of them, you might do one thing.. If you find an inappropriate post from an IP, ban that IP address. Then the system shud not allow any guest posts from those banned IPs. It can still accept a post from a member from that IP address so that genuine devotee members who get the same IP from the ISP wont find any problem. So, this would solve the problem of inappropriate junk posts from guests. Next, if the guest still wants to be troublesome, he will become a member and make inappropriate posts. In this case, you can ban posts from this member so that he wont be able to post with that name no matter where in the world he uses his computer. He might then become tired of opening new accounts. Definitely this shud take some time but over a period of time this will help avoid junk posts. some moderators can take care of this. Hope you got it !. -Prasad. raga
Since AOL is allocating dynamic IPs, isn't it possible that AOL may allocate one of the banned IPs to some other AOL user and this person may not be able to access the forums? That's why the banned IP lists are emptied on a regular basis, every two weeks or so.
