Guest guest
The Blind School in Damoh continues to grow. There are now 17 students meeting in the Resource room. This room was constructed from funds donated by the Owasso Christian Church Young Married Class. Prevously, the children had been meeting for class in a garage. Before having the opportunity to attend the school, these children were begging on the streets. Now they are learning ot read with Braille Bible verses. Also transportation is available for them. All of this has happened since 1992.
Guest guest
Mid India Christian Mission was begun in 1969 by our beloved and now deceased Dr. Vijai Lall. Along with preaching the gospel one of his first efforts was to start a Christian school. With 17 students and one teacher, the work began. A phenomenal growth took place and now the mission involves many mission areas including a video production facility, an eye hospital, a Bible teacher college, Christian school, and church planting ministries. Over our 25 years much has been accomplished. The Christian School was started in 1970 with 16 children in kindergarten. THere are now almost 2000 children in the school, K-12. This is botha Hindi medium shcool and an English medium school, each going from K through 12. 96% of these children are from Hindu, Moslem, Sikh, and Jain backgrounds. Even though this is a provate school, it is very highly rated and regarded by the Indian government. In competitive exam,s the school consistently rates among the highest in the state. Land has been purchased for the construction of a new shcool on 4.5 acres. Funds are still needed to complete the school and each classroom. Space is extremely limited for both school and difficult to accomodate all students, thus the need to expand. The new campus will be for the English medium school, allow the Hindi medium school to utilize the present campus. The Bible college started in 1989 with proper credit courses. The college gives a Bachelor of Theology degree as well as certificate courses and diploma courses. So far over 50 students have graduated and all 100% are serving the Lord. We also hold regular short courses, seminars, camps, and conferences for our church leaders. This year we have over 60 students. We give free boarding and lodging to our students. We also take care of their medical needs. Most of these students are from remote areas from where they are sent by their churches for being trained as leaders. We have regular staff of 32 along with our teaching staff. The other phase of our work is church growth. We have 22 full-time preachers who take care of their respective churches. Dr. Jay Henry's eldest daughter, Numreta, and her husband, Ernest McFarland, have started their work together with Jay and Romola Henry. The McFarland's have already worked in the mission for five years. Ernest McFarland, who takes care of the administration of the Bible college, is presently working on his Masters Degree program at Cincinnati Bible Seminary. After their return, he will also be teaching at the Bethleham Bible College and his wife, Numreta, will be taking care of some of the management work. This ministry is so greatly needed in the country of India as there is much blindness and eye disease. As many as 20,000 persons have their eyes examined annually through this ministry. There have been thousands of successful cataract removals and minor surgeries as a result. Spiritual needs as well as physical needs are met in this hospital. In 1995, 1600 Cataract surgeries were performed by our staff.
