Jahnava Nitai Das
[From another forum.] Somaka Swami Maharaja Leaves Body Dear devotees, With a saddened heart, we announce the passing away of Somaka Maharaja. He was affected by an incurable disease, and in the evening of the 18th of this month, his body ceased to function. He was Italian born and was initiated by Srila Prabhupada in 1972. He faithfully served in ISKCON almost his entire life. He was a sannyasi and an initiating guru. He relinquished his position a few years ago and retired. He was loved and respected by everyone. The Italian devotees especially mourn the great soul who gave them so much. Writings about him are published on the Italian web site www.isvara.it . Hare Krishna! Tarun
I first met HH Somaka Mhrj in Feb1984 at Rousseau's ISKCON North Paris Castle Mandir. He road by train alone from Italy to attend. He was the only sannyAsi present who did not engage in the flying prasAdam toss competition. He admirably abstained. Krishnas Dehors! Krishnas Dehors! Story at 11pm... Gauracandra
This is the kind of time when I wish the Inmemoriam website was still maintained. I think its a great service to make a permanent record, great or small, of the service and light all devotees have brought to their communities. Guest chanoch Guerci-Taveni
I ' was with Somaka Swami Maharaji in Vrindvan Hashram in Via degli Scopeti ( San Andrea in Percuassina -Fi renze ) and I shared Love for Lord Krishna, even I was not a formal devout but a mere friend and supporter, enthusiasm shelter and food. We work together on the construction of the first mobile unit ( Somaka Swami was a very good mechanic and handyman ) Was humble, always smiling and forgiving for the other mistakes, but very, very hard for his ( very rare really ) own. When I left Vrindavan Hashram at the end of my service I take wit me a memory of one of the best person I had meet in my entire la=life ( an I'm 71 old!
