Guest guest
Greetings everyone! I came across the Govinda Nama on this website : http://guruvayoorappanvizag.20m.com/custom3.html Could someone kindly translate the meanings into English, the phrases describing the various names and qualities of the Lord. It would be much appreciated. I do not know sanskrit, so I am unable to understand the meaning of many of the phrases (I can understand some of the more popular phrases in the text). Also, who is the author of this text? I have cut and pasted the relevant phrases at the end to facilitate an easier response. I realise that it is a time consuming process, and I am not in a hurry, so please take your time. Many, many thanks in advance. -------------------------- Govinda Nama Srinivasa Govinda Sri Venkatesa Govinda bhakthavatsala Govinda bhagavatha priya Govinda nithya nirmala Govinda neelamega shyama Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda purana purusha Govinda pundareekaksha Govinda nanda nandana Govinda navaneeda chora Govinda pashupalka Govinda pahi murare Govinda dushta samhara Govinda duritha nivarana Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda shishta paripalaka Govinda kashta nivaraka Govinda vajra makuta dara Govinda varaha murthe Govinda gopi jana lola Govinda govardhano dhara Govinda dasharatha nandana Govinda dashamukha mardhana Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda pakshi vahana Govinda pandava priya Govinda mathsya kurma Govinda madhu soodhana Hari Govinda varaha nrsimha Govinda vama pragurama Govinda balaramanuja Govinda bauda kalki Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda venu gana priya Govinda venkataramana Govinda seetha nayaka Govinda srutha paripalaka Govinda daridra jana poshaka Govinda darma samsthapaka Govinda anadha rakshaka Govinda apath pandava Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda daranhe nayaka Govinda dinakara deja Govinda padmavati priya Govinda prasanna murthe Govinda abhaya hastha Govinda akshaya varada Govinda shanka chakra dhara Govinda saranga gadA dara Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda viraja theertha Govinda virodhi mardhana Govinda salagrama hara Govinda sahasranama Govinda lakshmi vallabha Govinda lakshmanagraja Govinda kasturi thilaka Govinda kanchanam barapara Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda Garuda vahana Govinda gaja raja rakshaka Govinda vanara sevitha Govinda varithi bandhana Govinda edukuntala vada Govinda Ekathva roopa Govinda ramakrishna Govinda ragukula nanda Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda prathyaksha deva Govinda parama dayakara Govinda vajramakuta dara Govinda vaijayanthi mala Govinda vatti kasula vada Govinda vasudeva sutha Govinda bilvapathrArchitha Govinda bikshuka samsthutha Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda sthri pum roopa Govinda sivakesava murthi Govinda brahmanda roopa Govinda baktha tharaka Govinda nithya kalyana Govinda neeraja nabha Govinda hathi rama priya Govinda Hari sarvothama Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda janardhana murthi Govinda jagath sakshi roopa Govinda abhisheka priya Govinda abhannirasada Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda nithya shubhatha Govinda nikila lokesha Govinda ananda roopa Govinda athyantha rahitha Govinda ihapara dayaka Govinda iparaja rakshaka Govinda padma dalaksha Govinda padmanaba Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda thirumala nivasa Govinda tulasi vanamala Govinda shesha sayi Govinda seshadri nilaya Govinda sri srinivasa Govinda sri venkatesa Govinda Govinda Hari Govinda gokula nandana Govinda --------------------------- Here are the phrases: bhakthavatsala - bhagavatha priya - nithya nirmala - neelamega shyama - gokula nandana - purana purusha - pundareekaksha - nanda nandana - navaneeda chora - pashupalka - pahi murare - dushta samhara - duritha nivarana - shishta paripalaka - kashta nivaraka - vajra makuta dara - varaha murthe - gopi jana lola - govardhano dhara - dasharatha nandana - dashamukha mardhana - pakshi vahana - pandava priya - mathsya kurma - madhu soodhana Hari - varaha nrsimha - vama pragurama - balaramanuja - bauda kalki - venu gana priya - venkataramana - seetha nayaka - srutha paripalaka - daridra jana poshaka - darma samsthapaka - anadha rakshaka - apath pandava - daranhe nayaka - dinakara deja - padmavati priya - prasanna murthe - abhaya hastha - akshaya varada - shanka chakra dhara - saranga gadA dara - viraja theertha - virodhi mardhana - salagrama hara - sahasranama - lakshmi vallabha - lakshmanagraja - kasturi thilaka - kanchanam barapara - Garuda vahana - gaja raja rakshaka - vanara sevitha - varithi bandhana - edukuntala vada - Ekathva roopa - ramakrishna - ragukula nanda - prathyaksha deva - parama dayakara - vajramakuta dara - vaijayanthi mala - vatti kasula vada - vasudeva sutha - bilvapathrArchitha - bikshuka samsthutha - sthri pum roopa - sivakesava murthi - brahmanda roopa - baktha tharaka - nithya kalyana - neeraja nabha - hathi rama priya - Hari sarvothama - janardhana murthi - jagath sakshi roopa - abhisheka priya - abhannirasada - nithya shubhatha - nikila lokesha - ananda roopa - athyantha rahitha - ihapara dayaka - iparaja rakshaka - padma dalaksha - padmanaba - thirumala nivasa - tulasi vanamala - shesha sayi - seshadri nilaya - ----------------- Venkatadri Samam Sthanam Brahmande Nasti Kinchana Venkatesa Samo Devo Na Bhuto Na Bhavishyathi. livingentity
I have looked at the site and find it interesting - it is Sri Vaisnava site - correct? I thought this might be a good place to ask the following question. What are the differences between Sri Vaisnava and Gaudiya Vaisnava? (Some are obvious - deities etc) What are the similarities between the two?
Jahnava Nitai Das
After looking at some of the names in the stotra, it is clear that this is a prayer to Tirupati Venkateswara. For example, the name "hathi rama priya" refers to Sri Hatirama Baba, who was a great saint and devotee of Venkateswara. His jiva-samadhi is located on the sapta-giri hills. These names also are specific to Venkateswara. thirumala nivasa seshadri nilaya nithya kalyana sthri pum roopa padmavati priya Tirupati Venkateswara is called most commonly by the name Govinda. While walking up the mountain, the pilgrims will call out in unison, "Govinda, Govinda, Gooo-vinda".

Guest guest
Yes, Jndas that is indeed a prayer to Lord Venkateswara. I have heard parts of it many times while waiting in the queue in Tirumala. I never heard the whole version though. Recently, I came across this on the internet. I am not able to find this prayer on more than a couple of sites, which is a bot strange given the popularity of this in Tirumala. The author is not mentioned, nor are the scriptures from which this prayer is extracted. Anyhow, I happen to like this prayer very much. Thanks to all for your translations. --------------- Venkatadri Samam Sthanam Brahmande Nasti Kinchana Venkatesa Samo Devo Na Bhuto Na Bhavishyathi. madhav
I did not notice "new topic" button till now. That font looks like devanagari, and when i look the font, knowing devanagri, my mind tries to read devanagari and cannot read english. To tell the truth, that font looks good, but to me it is really hard to read. Does any one have that experience? Thanks any way, theist prabhu. Jai Sri Krishna!
