Guest guest
sundara means beautiful. arati means worshiping deity with lamps. 5 lamps are waved in front of deity and arati song is sung glorigying the deity.
Guest guest
Is it not, also, the arati that is offered to the deities at sunset, or in the evening?
stonehearted
I've always understood that it was sandhya-arati. Sandhya means juncture, and the junctures of the day are sunrise, noon, and sunset. These are the appropriate times for meditating on the mantras the guru gives us (as Srila Prabhupada told me, "Morning, noon, and evening"). My understanding is this is the sandhya-arati because it's performed around sunset.
livingentity
This is also what I understood. Isn't Sandhya-arati also called Gaura-arati? Then there is the final arati of the day that is called Sayana Arati. I've always understood that it was sandhya-arati.
