gHari
Another Gurukuli Leaves In the mail:
My mom just confirmed that Dhruva, Manasa Ganga's son, shot himself. He was missing for about six days or so and the police had started to search for him. Some turkey hunters found his body in the woods around Kirtanananda's old house and the Keshi ghat area. He was a wonderful person. Please send him your prayers and love.
stonehearted
Is this Manasa Ganga the artist who lived in California in the '80s?
gHari
I'm afraid I likely know none of the parties spoken about in the e-mail that somehow came to me.
stonehearted
It appears he's from an Indian family that immigrated from Africa, so his mother is not the Manasa Ganga I knew.
theist
I wonder what the %'s are for suicide in the Western devotee communities vs. society as a whole. Is it more or less? Maybe the devotee world here is too small yet to make a comparison. The same questions arise in both worlds though.. Why did he feel so hopeless? Why did he feel there was no one he could talk to? Nuerotransmitter imbalnce or lack of personalism amongst the group as a whole? Are people still being valued on the strength of their perceived contributions to the "movement", kind of a sliding scale of worth, rather than for their intinsic value as a living being? So many questions. It must be hard for young folks to reconcile being a Hare Krsna in this culture. Whatever it is, it needs to be thoughly looked at.
