Guest guest
"Is investing in the stock market considered to be gambling?" i found this in another tread but there was no response Hari Hari
PN Prasad
Generally, people conclude that investing in stock market is gambling. I have not come across any scriptural references which indicate the same. However, as time moves on, there are chances of getting addicted to gambling (thereby investing again and again in stock markets even after losing money). Maybe, that's the reason it's not recommended for devotees.
Guest guest
the old phrase "we come into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing" seems fitting here. if we spend all our precious time hackering for financial stability we can become addicted to the endevoring of things to buy which we really don't need. all of this still doesn't change the fact that one day we will die. so the next logical question is "if all my hackering for financial gain won't help me at the time of death - what will?" the answer-SPIRITUAL CURRENCY ! money may give us the sense of false security, leading towards addiction when we want more and more to feed our appetite of greed. nonetheless money is how the modern age operates, just realize it's limited value and realize the Holyname is the only "currency" we should be building our accounts with. PN Prasad
Ofcourse, we would require money as long as we are in this world. (Atleast, till the time we realize what a miserable place this world is) Matter does matter, but spirit matters most. We need to have a perfect balance in our life. Personally, I'm not in a position to completely renounce everything. In the initial stages, it will be difficult for us to balance between our material and spiritual pursuits. I would not like to invest in stock markets due to the number of problems that arise out of it. There are many other options that are open to the devotees who would like to earn a living. Guest guest
Every day is a gamble, every breath also. When we recognise that all belongs to the Lord, including every breath and every action, we will no longer possess anything. We cannot gamble unless we possess something. The devotee who possesses nothing can never gamble.
PN Prasad
That's the most advanced stage of devotion. Isn't it?
Guest guest
That's the most advanced stage of devotion. Isn't it? No, the most advanced stage is when Krishna allows you to possess Him. The devotee who posseses Krishna still can not gamble. It is not possible for others to win Krishna in a game of chance. Krishna is only won through love and devotion. From the perspective of gambling, a devotee who owns Krishna still owns nothing. Krishna cannot be gambled. (BTW, your mother misses you. Please talk to he nicely.) Guest guest
please read BG 9:4 and then BG 9:29. Compare and contemplate. A devotee who has nothing cannot gamble. A devotee who only has faith cannot gamble either. Faith cannot be won in a game of chance. Faith is won by those who are defeated by love.
