Guest guest
Shri Caitanya was also a great vedantist, but most of his time he chanted the holy names. Why shouldn't we study vedanta and sing the holy names. Please explain me. satyameva jayate
Guest guest
Caitanya advised that the Bhagavata purana is the commentary on the Vedanta, and stressed the study of the Bhagavatam above all other shastra.
Subala
From CC in conversations with Vallabha prabhu kahe,----"bhagavatartha bujhite na pari bhagavatartha sunite ami nahi adhikari TRANSLATION The Lord replied, "I do not understand the meaning of Srimad-Bhagavatam. Indeed, I am not a suitable person to hear its meaning. prabhu kahe,----"krsna-namera bahu artha na mani "syama-sundara' 'yasoda-nandana,'----ei-matra jani TRANSLATION Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu replied,"I do not accept many different meanings for the holy name of Krsna. I know only that Lord Krsna is Syamasundara and Yasodanandana. That's all I know.

Guest guest
nice verse, it tells alot. the Bhagavatam has to be approached in that mood, this is the meaning of Mahaprabhu's words. The Bhagavatam when approached with the attitude of one who thinks the words of the Bhagavatam are easily understood by his own endeavor will be frustrated by the attempt. Here Mahahprabhu is telling us that by ourselves we are not qualified to interpret the Bhagavatam, we need the help of the Bhagavat. The Bhagavatam should be heard from the lips of the person who has realized the import of the Bhagavatam, otherwise it can be misunderstood. Even Vyasa the author of the Bhagavatam may not understand the true purport of the message of the Bhagavatam : aham vedmi suko vetti, vyaso vetti na vetti va bhaktya bhagavatam grahyam, na buddhya na ca tikaya Lord Siva said; "I know the meaning of the Bhagavat and I know that Sukadeva knows it also. But for Vyasadeva he may or may not know it. The Bhagavat can only be known through bhakti, not by mundane intelligence or by reading many commentaries." This rather interesting sloka is spoken by Lord Siva himself in addressing an assembly of Sankarites at Banaras. The second line of the sloka is an admonishment to the misguided followers of Sankaracharya and the first line of the sloka is the siddhanta accepted by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as regards the position of the guru, i.e., relative or absolute. here is what Narasingha Swami says on this ; http://www.gosai.com/chaitanya/saranagati/html/nmj_articles/vyasa_knows.html
